Dead Orbit doesn't want to abandon humanity. They want to spread humanity out to new planets/systems to ensure they won't become extinct.

The darkness hunted us down last time on all of our colonies. And that’s when we had fully advanced tech Something tells me if it were to come back. History would repeat itself. Only this time there would be fewer people to stand with the traveler If the speaker was to be believed

By abandoning their own planet and species?

Pretty sure DO accepts anyone who wants to go with them. They aren't abandoning the species, only those that want to stay and die.

They believe the traveller will bring about their death. Hence the dead orbit name. Their name implies the traveller, being in a geosynchronous orbit (meaning it's position relative to the city on earth doesn't change), brings death. Also, according to wiki, they believe the City won't hold against a major attack.
it didn't. You know, the first thing that happens in the game.
They believe in leaving earth for humanity's continued existence.

Also the traveler was pretty dead. Well incapacitated anyway. But now that the traveler has awakened I wonder if that changes their viewpoints or the viewpoints of other factions for that matter.
