Destiny 1 grossed over $500mil at launch.

With added microtransactions and DLC sales, you end up with an incredible number. Now, does anyone here genuinely believe that so much as half of that figure went into developing Destiny 2? That’s because it obviously didn’t. If that $500mil profit made its way into D2 we’d have got a better game than this rubbish in disguise. This game used to be my favourite, but now D2 is the nail in the coffin. This was the greatest insult to the hardcore community that stayed with this deteriorating franchise until D2. We trusted Bungie to give us the proper Destiny which we should’ve got in 2014. However, we got the worst game of 2017, and I’m not joking; Destiny 2 is rubbish. I can’t believe that I was even going to begin to compare this rubbish to BF2.

 • Destiny 1 had suppliers (e.g. GameStop) buy $500m worth of product by launch. That money then went to Activision, who gave Bungie something like 30% according to the old, public contract. By the same contract Bungie also got ~$12.5m/yr unconditional funding. And of course that's all gross income, not net profit. Bungie doubled the size of their studio between the launches of D1 and D2, so it's not like the money's been just sitting there.
