At the end of the Taken strike in the EDZ there's some supposedly "big reveal" that the boss is Red Legion. Leading to this conversation like, "Oh, how'd he get Taken if Oryx is dead? It must have been one of Oryx's sisters that's started getting all Took-y."
Oryx had been Taking civilizations for thousands of years before his defeat. Maybe millions. I forget. Is it somehow inconceivable that in all that time Oryx never ran into the Red Legion, a military force with a supposedly galactic presence? Makes more sense to me than one of Oryx's sisters Taking cabal in our solar system from whatever far off dimension they occupy.

Edited by SkinPoppeR: 9/29/2017 12:37:28 AMAlso Oryx might not be out the picture completely. After you killed him his body fell towards Titan. After trolling YouTube I'm quite positive that the "Leviathan" swimming in the oceans is his immortal hive worm. His Sisters might be searching for a new body. JHC what if that was it. A Cabal body???
-
If he's been taking worlds for thousands of years why does his army facing us only have enemies from our solar system in it? Why not all the species he's taken??
-
The Hive don't "run into" other species. They annihilate them. In every war the Hive have started in their long history they have always driven their opponents to extinction. That's why it's such a big deal for us to have stopped the Hive's efforts and killed Oryx, and that's how we know the Cabal have never met the Hive before. If they had the Hive would have fought them to the end because withdrawing from a war would show weakness and allow their worms to devour them. Also it's hinted in other parts of Destiny 2 that Savathun is making her own Taken so that end revelation in the strike is obviously true.
-
Oh yes that 1 strike 2 3rds of playerbase won't get.
-
One of oryx's sisters Xivu Arath focuses on- war and strength(Titan/Zavala) One of oryx's sisters Savathûn focuses on- cunning and not so fair play(Hunter/Cayde-6) Oryx(Auryx) focused on- understanding and learning(Warlock/Ikora Rey) Coincidence? I think not!
-
What makes you think his sisters are in some other dimension in the first place? They are all native to this material universe.
-
if you read the lore. youd know that calus has been to the home world of the hive and witnesed oryx taking the darkness from his worm symbiote. oryx has faced the red legion..
-
Actually we never killed oryx only way to truly kill a hive leader is to enter their dimension and kill them like how we enter cortas though the crystal
-
I never thought of Oryx to bee dead. More like defeated and loss of power. Waiting for his return would be inevitable. Besides we never did destroy his soul like we did to Crota.
-
Fair point, but I think the evidence suggests Taken can't warp across infinite distances, or else we'd have been overwhelmed by Taken from races we haven't even seen yet. It looks like the only Taken in the system were either ancient Hive that Oryx brought with him or from the races that we had already encountered in-system that he took. Presumably he rebuilds his army on every campaign. Not denying that a Red Legion Taken could be from elsewhere, but that either means we've got a Hive-God in the solar system actively Taking new soldiers or a new Taken King bringing in reinforcements from beyond. Both are equally terrifying.

The first boss on io is called the Herald of Savathûn

Edited by BraveCole: 9/28/2017 10:52:56 PMI thought the red legion was formed after Ghaul overthrew Calus. Which was after Oryx's death I think? I dunno. And with the outbound signal mission in D1, it can be implied that the Skyburners regiment of the cabal was the very first to encounter Oryx and his taken powers.

Edited by ManBlaster: 9/29/2017 2:06:41 PMI still stick to my (spinfoil?)Theory that the current Taken Lord is The Vex Hydra Mind Quria, Blade Transformed . The Questline for the Man-o-war linear fusion on Io is the biggest source of evidence I can point to for this theory. That although Savathun has forces in our system and she will be arriving soon, It is the Taken, but still partially free-willed, Vex Mind that Oryx 'gifted' to Savathun that has been recruiting and building its own forces on Io. Titan storyline hints that Savathun's forces are attempting to summon her directly to Titan through ritual magic. Quria, Blade Transformed was created for the direct purpose of finding and establishing a path to Vex survival by way of the Hive/Worm discovery of Oryx's Throne Realm and the Sword Logic. In the Books of Sorrow Oryx returns to find Crota had unleashed the Vex into his throne world. Oryx then repels the vex and toss's Crota into the Vex dimension and seals it behind him and then -Takes- Quria as his Taken Thrall. Oryx I believe Knows that Savathun was the one that tricked Crota into opening the dimension wound and decides to allow the Vex Quria some of its own will power and 'Gifts' it to Savathun for her cunning and even worns her that it has some of its will power and if it does Kill her that its because she's weak and deserves to die. I believe Quria has grown strong enought to reach out and procure its own Taken forces. I also have a mildly absurd theory that Savathun the trickster CREATED the Vex and intentionally tricked Crota into unleashing the vex inside of Oryx's Throne World. Savathun KNEW the worms would kill them eventually and they could not survive the worms deception. She Knew that we would kill Oryx, thereby feeding her worm through trickery. She created the vex to find an escape from the worms bargain and the ability to change the hives past by way of time-travel and by tricking Crota she sought to obtain the power Oryx had taken from Akka. Savathun having access to the vex time travel foresaw Oryx's gifting her with her own taken forces... which either is going to backfire on her or she has masterfully constructed these events and she has some seriously horrifying power at her disposal... HIVE, TAKEN, and the access to the VEX. Doubtful, I am aware, but still an open possibility at this time.

There was a mission on Io where Taken were using blights to transform Vex, so it's more likely they just found a big enough source of that energy to take the Red Legion Commander.

Op is tomato

It's so they can reskin Oryx's daughters into his sisters for a future raid in a future expansion. Along with Failsafe detecting Siva on Nessus. That'll be £/$20, please. Each.

I don’t think I’ve done this strike.
-
The Red Legion are Ghaul's followers. There wasn't a Red Legion until Ghaul overthrew Calus as far as I know.

Edited by GANTY1986: 9/29/2017 7:17:40 PMLol look at you guys trying to seek out lore in d2. It's a hole riddled story with loads missing to keep people interested this whole franchise feels like an experiment to see how much they can keep screw over customers Edit. Didn't mean to sound like a dick to you there lol

Edited by ThyGreatestFlame: 9/30/2017 11:05:51 AMConsider that the Cabal on Mars had never encountered Oryx before, and Calus only knew about Oryx from that one device he had. I think it's plausible to assume that Oryx and the Cabal had never met. And the commander in this strike perhaps was Red Legion when he arrived here, but was Taken come time for the strike. Which means that someone is actively using Oryx's powers. And that person is not Oryx. You can see on Titan how active Savathun's Taken and Hive are. She is probably knowledge enough in Hive arcana that she can steal powers or somehow learn them. If it is her, remember that she hasn't even shown her own abilities. She's using her brother's army as pawns.

Wait people are actually running strikes?
-
Wait.... there's a Taken strike?

If oryx had come into contact with the red legion prior to ttk (presumably on his way to the sol system), there wouldnt be much of a red legion for us to fight. and if there was any left, it would be left in shambles. The hive literally annihilate every race they come into contact with. Of the known races that the hive have rendered extinct are the Ecumene, the Dakua Nest, and the Taishibethi. The only reason the fallen weren't completely destroyed is that they had the traveler *slightly* backing them (as it ultimately left), and they were prepared to get the hell out when oryx attacked. Chelchis actually stalled oryx while the houses began to evacuate. We have survived the hive onslaught because we have the light as a weapon, and were able to kill four hive GODS. If we were caught unawares by oryx we would literally have been completely and utterly devastated. the only reason we were able to stop him was because the queen stalled him at Saturn, giving us time to prepare. It is highly likely that Savathun, Xivu Arath, or, in my opinion, the mysterious god Nokris have taken over the taken power. We already know that something is guiding the taken, as there is a number of taken bosses named after savathun and quria, as well as the adventure talking about something watching this dimension through the blights. so it is perfectly reasonable to believe that something took a red legion commander after the events of the red war

The story and all adventures are dumb ass stupid. That's why!

Both are possible. But Savathun has played a pretty big part with the taken and hive within vanilla D2. Maybe Oryx took him and he decided to follow Savathun, but there are multiple hive and taken enemies already that have names like "Servant of Savathun" etc. so it's not too much of a stretch.
