The Hunt: Part 2

Tiberius flew along the coastline, the acid seas roiling below him. His teammates flew in formation around him. "Hey ladies! How's it going over there?" Carter's voice came over the com system. "Just fine thank you." Kara said softly. "You sure? Is there anything I can do to help?" Carter asked. "No. We don't need you." Sydney said. "Hey now, I'm just trying to be friendly!" Carter sound hurt. "No you're not, and you know it. You're trying to flirt with her, and she doesn't understand that you're a dishonest lowdown skulking slime ball." Sydney said. "What ever you say, baby doll." Carter snickered. If Sydney's response had been any louder, it would have blown out the speaker system in Tiberius's ship. "I AM NOT A BABY!!!" Every single ship jerked wildly, falling out of formation. Tiberius clapped his hands over his metallic ears. Astrid struggled to maintain control. After everyone's hearing returned, Tiberius leaned over to the com system. "Leave them alone Carter." he said. "I can take care of myself Captain." Carter responded. "It's not you I'm worried about, it's me. Leave the girls alone. We're here to hunt, not to fall in love." Tiberius ordered. They could all hear Carter grumbling in his ship. "How much longer?" Ray asked. "My butt is going numb." "Patience. To hunt an Ahamkara is no small matter. You must truly understand its behavior. You can do nothing in life without patience." Valimore said. "Well that all sounds well and good, but when you're staring an Ahamkara in the face, patience isn't going to help you." Carter said. "I know because I have taken down three Ahamkara before." "How many Ahamkara have you taken out Valimore?" Ray asked. "Fifteen." came the reply. No one said anything after that for quite awhile. Eventually, Astrid spoke up. "We're nearing the coordinates of the Ahamkara. But I'm losing the signal." She sighed. "It's gone. We're going to have to track it the old fashioned way." "Alright everybody. Weapons ready?" Tiberius asked. He listened to reports of confirmation from everyone. "Ok good. Valimore, You want to say anything?" He asked. "I must go first, to see the trail it has left behind it. It is very hard to find the trail of an Ahamkara. Only a master can find it." Valimore said. Tiberius felt a tingle, and then he was standing in rain in the middle of the jungle. His fireteam materialized around him. Valimore immediately began looking for a trail. "Ummm..." Carter lifted a finger and pointed. To their right, a trail led into the jungle. The ground had been marred, with deep ruts and ditches. Trees were standing lopsided and several had been knocked over. Something big had come through here. "Wow." Carter said. "That was so hard to find. I mean, only a master could have found it. It was so well hidden, I just barely saw it." "Shut up." Valimore said. They began walking, following the path. "Sydney and Ray, you cover from behind. Valimore and Kara, You take scout ahead. Carter, you're with me." Tiberius ordered. They began to skulk along the path. The sun was setting fast, its amber rays falling through the trees. After an hour, Valimore spoke up. "Captain, you need to see something." He said. Tiberius frowned. Valimore was not known for being dramatic. "Let's go." he said to Carter. They both summoned their sparrows and took off through the jungle. In a few minutes they reached an impassable rock face, that shot up into the sky. At the base of the cliff, stood Valimore and Kara. Behind them was a massive cave, which led into utter blackness. "The Ahamkara is tunneling through the mountain." Valimore said. "What should we do?" Carter asked. "Let me think." Tiberius said. He sat down on his sparrow, and thought. The others all sat down as well. After about ten minutes, Sydney and Ray showed up. They took in the cave, and Tiberius's solemn face. "Did it take off in there?" Ray asked. Valimore nodded. Tiberius stood. "Get your sparrows. Were going in." he said. "Great! Now we're all going to die." Carter said. "Who wants to go first?" Tiberius jumped onto his sparrow and revved the engine. The others did the same, Carter shaking his head and muttering something about"death", and "Vex." With a low rumble, Tiberius pushed his sparrow forward, and took off into the cave. The rest of the team vanished into the dark, leaving no trace that they were ever there.
