I'm writing this post at the request of another user who liked my explanation of the situation. It seems a lot of people don't fully understand the problem with KEK being in Destiny 2. Quite frankly I don't blame anyone for not being in the loop on this one, it involves a long string of obscure events and anyone who's not paying close attention to current political events in America likely has no idea what's really going on here.
Most people who have heard of KEK know it from World of Warcracft. If an Alliance player was reading the chat and a Horde player typed in "LOL" it would instead come across as "KEK" to the Alliance player. This is the origin of KEK but this is not what Bungie is referring to when they speak of "harmful imagery."
A while ago KEK was used as a meme within the Pepe the Frog is a racist symbol fiasco. Most notably as the main symbol within a very N4Zl*-esk looking flag. The memes themselves were merely jokes but at face value (to anyone not knowing better) they seemed to invoke racist ideology.
More recently those same racist KEK memes have been appropriated by various actual hate groups. THIS is what Bungie is talking about when they refer to "harmful imagery." It's not that there's anything inherently wrong with KEK or the memes that use it, it's just the result of an unfortunate serious of recent events that have led to KEK being associated with modern hate groups.
Even if KEK is being taken wildly out of it's original context that doesn't change the fact that very real and very active modern hate groups have appropriated the term and the memes surrounding it for their own purposes. It would be irresponsible of Bungie to leave in their game something that (even unintentionally) invokes the ideologies of these groups. THIS is why Bungie made a big deal out of explaining that it was an unintentional inclusion. THIS is why Bungie is taking it out of the game**. Bungie doesn't want to be associated with modern hate groups.
*Bungie's system automatically replaces the work N4Zl with -godwinslaw!-. I understand why they do this, it's to help prevent disagreements from spiraling into mere name calling. However I believe in this context it's important for people to immediately understand what's being said as opposed to the term being censored, which is why I typed it weird to avoid the censor.
**To be clear Bungie is not removing any of the gear that has this image on it, they're just re-skinning the items to no longer include the image.

What are these mysterious "hate groups"? I live in northern Europe and the only hate group I know of are the communists, "anarchists" and other so called "social justice warriors" who absolutely hate everyone who doesn't agree to their stupid politics. They also threaten people with violence and riot all over the world, yet it's the "far right" who is supposedly"hateful". A lot of quotation marks on this post because even the language is rotten with words without actual meaning. Wake up people.

If the logic used to justify the ends, requires use of made-up beliefs of groups like the adl... It should be rejected. The entire theory that pepe or kek are racist is false and thus the argument ends. However, in pc -make-believe-land, all discourse must halt, censoring is mandatory, end of story....because (insert virtue signal of your choice) It's sad to see true fascism in action here on our soil, but droves, like yourself are on board. All yelling trumps fascist and everyone's a -godwinslaw!- lol. Mass hysteria and public school/university indoctrination are alive and well.

Edited by NeoZephyr: 9/20/2017 3:59:43 PMYup. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. Old Christian sects, as well as Hindus and Buddhists used the swastika well before Hitler took the symbol for himself. When people rightfully started condemning the use of the symbol, I doubt all these religious groups went around crying or feeling they needed to separate themselves from -godwinslaw!- or were so torn up that they could no longer use the symbol on everything (or at least had to be careful with it - yes - because of what other people not associated with them had done with it). People aren't being "snowflakes" for condemning hate groups or the symbols used by hate groups - even if those symbols and their intent is greatly removed from the original intent or originator. Bottom line is...are people so upset that their precious memes are ruined or tainted...and this is so tied to their identity...that it's more important to them than killing off symbols or whatever that serve to identify and unite racist pieces of crap? What I don't understand is why people that claim they aren't racist or attached to these hate groups in any way are comfortable continuing to use these memes or symbols...even though they were stolen in a sense. What that says to me is that they may not be in bed with these groups, but at best they're indifferent to them and what they do.

I can go further with this. The Destiny Tricorne can now be associated assisted-suicide since the Speakers tells us to go kill ourselves.

Why is Bungie full of PC losers
-
If a hate group started using the traveler in any images would Bungie shut the entire game down or re-skin the giant sphere as a giant cube?

Edited by ManBlaster: 9/20/2017 9:10:14 AMNo matter where you stand on this subject it seems you're going to be told you're an idiot. Humans are Idiots. Build a bridge an either get over it or live under it. With everybody turning this into SocialJusticeWhiners vs. Alt-Shitstains only 1 truth will hold. SHEOGORATH WINS. game over.

The only thing that needs to be explained is that PC SJW culture is a cancer seeping into every corner of the world

Edited by drackiller: 9/19/2017 10:06:48 PMYou know that the Suastic symbol is not -godwinslaw!- by nature don`t you? It`s a Budist symbol. Now google it and find the real meaning of it. PS: damn, didn`t knew we couldn`t write N.a.z.i. on any kind of context. That`s a bad way to educate people. Hidding the truth is harmful, not the other way around.

Edited by x 4theRage: 9/20/2017 3:47:48 AM"THIS is what Bungie is talking about" ok got it "THIS is why Bungie made a big deal" yep mhmm I understand "THIS is why Bungie is taking it out of the game" -blam!-! Stop yelling at me! *throws phone*

You have no clue what you are talking about.

Sorry but your argument is rubbish. Just because a hate group appropriates or is seen with a symbol, it doesn't mean that symbol is associated with that group. What if I saw a KKK member drinking pepsi, does that make the Pepsi logo a hate symbol? What if I saw one retweet Justin Bieber, does that make him a hate symbol? What you're peddling here is not only guilt by association but censorship by association too.

I should make Bungie cords represent assisted-suicide by hanging impliments. I'll be impressed if they actually change their name for it.
-
Kek is the evil 'lol' of the internet. And no one saw this coming?
-
Finally someone actually explained this. Every time I tried to explain this to someone else, they just started spouting "muh it's racist". I'm just glad they brought back the armor pieces without the design on it. My hunter looked absolutely disgusting with dead end cure chest piece as a replacement

Thank you!
