  • This for me as well - took a blonde recipe and converted it to a borderline IPA as a summer beer at one of our local U-Brew joints. Falconer's Flight and Citra hops, with Irish moss and orange peel at the end, then dry hopped.

  • Didn't know you are a home brewer. How big is your system? All grain?

  • Well, we have a friend who has a very nice system, but this brew we actually went to a place here that has a brew-on-premises setup. Pretty neat, you brew whatever you want, they keep it to ferment and then you go back up and bottle with others and trade some beer. Really good time!

  • Nice! I did that in Portland a few years back. Despite brewing professionaly for 12 years I've never purchased home brewing equipment. So when I wanted to make a special batch for my father it was nice to have a place like that available. What hops are your in fancy IIPA?

  • Crystal, Chinook, and lots of Simcoe.

  • Nice! Way to go for the classic hops instead of the whole mosaic, citra, galaxy, etc. route that everyone and they're mother have been using the last couple of years. Not to say that they aren't delicious, but they have been overused a bit.

  • Oh yeah, I'm pretty fond of citra haha, but this batch turned out damn good. Best we've made in a while I think!

  • Way to go! Always a great feeling when you make a new recipe or tweak an an old one and it comes out better than expected! It's pretty scary at my brewery since I don't have home brewing equipment and the brewery doesn't have a pilot system whenever I need to make a new recipe it's on the big system. Kind of a tightrope walk without a net... Simcoes are pretty tasty too. We've got a 100+ IBU beer that features them fairly heavily.
