The fire team heard the distress signal and immediately went to their ships. When they got to the tower they saw what was going on. The taken, enemies that had been captured by Oryx and stored in a pocket dimension stripped of their will. After Oryx's death the taken have been acting on their own without a will to command them. Now their were dozens of taken hive knights running amok in the tower, destroying anything they can.
More guardians were transmatting in and others were already fighting the threat now in their home. "How the heck did the taken get in here?" Vulcan asked surprised at the recent threat.
"The taken are not bound by mortal coils, they can go wherever they like and we can't stop them," answered V while summoning his hand canon. These knights where using their cleaver like swords infused with Oryx's power to slash at anyone that came close. They were spitting fire all around the tower causing things to burst into flames.
"Well, I don't know about the rest of you," spoke Silas drawing his sword, "but I've had enough of this," The sword he was using wasn't the same scimitar he'd used to defeat Urzok, it was the sword of an Iron Lord.
"Silas, how'd you get your hands on a sword like that?" Vulcan asked starring at the double edged blade.
"I was offered a position in the Iron Lords' order, I declined but I still was aloud to keep the sword," he said with a grin as his helmet appeared on his head, "They're all over the tower we're going to need to split up to different sections to help out. I'll see you on the other side," and with that Silas' sword burst into flames and he charged the taken knights attacking the courtyard. The others nodded at each other and took off, Tesmin and Vulcan heading towards the hangar, and V going after the speaker.
Silas hit the group of knights like a freight train, the first knight tried to block his attack but Silas easily sliced his sword, and the knight, in half burning embers being left due to the solar energy Silas infused into the sword. He was like death, moving through the taken and slicing them up with ease. A knight tried to bring its sword down on him, but he blocked it and spun around, as the knights sword hit the ground Silas cut off its head. He kept killing taken after taken, cutting them to pieces or stabbing them straight through. None of the guardians who saw him fight that day had ever seen someone so gifted in swordsmanship.
As Tesmin and Vulcan entered the hangar they saw that the few guardians their were being overrun. Tesmin loaded a rocket into his rocket launcher and fired at a group of three going after the dead orbit representative. The rocket exploded killing all three. Vulcan threw a magnetic grenade on to a taken threatening the shipwright. The explosion distracted the knight and Vulcan finished it with a shell from his shotgun and moved up to the FWC rep. Tesmin fired his fusion rifle down the stairs into a taken knight that was coming out of the cafe. (That's what I'm calling the place where you can play music) All three bolts hit and disintegrated the knight, but another knight came up and swung at him. Tesmin ducked under the swing and stuck a fusion grenade to the knight and used his palm to knock the knight back down the stairs as the explosion killed it.
Vulcan drew his heavy machine gun and blasted the knight that was up there, causing it to crash threw the glass and onto the floor below. Tesmin finished it off with his scout rifle. V had run to the north part of the tower where he joined the vanguard and other guardians there who were trying to defend the speaker. V summoned his golden gun and fired all three shots, killing three knights and stunning others as their body's exploded. He drew his gun named Hawkmoon and fired into the mob of taken. There seemed to be more here than anywhere else, possibly to kill the speaker. A warlock threw a nova bomb that split into three. The resulting explosion of ethereal fire killed most of the knights, sending them into the void. The rest were picked off easily.
The battle was known as the Taken assault and lasted only a half hour, a last ditch effort by the taken since Oryx was gone. Nevertheless, every guardian who fought during the attack was regarded as heroes, and the ones who had died where honored and given proper burials. The fire team of four guardians met up in the courtyard to talk about what had transpired.
"So, mind telling us how you managed to kill a majority of the knights in the courtyard and how you infused your sword with solar light?" Vulcan asked playfully, his eyebrow raised.
"I met a guy named Shade, or shadow I can't remember, who taught me. He was apart of an order called the Dawn Knights, or something like that," Silas responded to his curiosity.
Tesmin was still confused by the attack, "Why do you think they attacked us, it doesn't make any sense that they would," he asked the group.
"What are you talking about? They're our enemies, of course they would try to kill us," V responded confused by his odd question.
"No, Tesmin's right," Silas said his hand on his chin looking down in thought, "The taken shouldn't have been able to organize an attack like that. They don't have a will of their own anymore since Oryx died. Plus, why would they attack with a small force of only a few dozen taken, and why were those taken specifically knights with swords?" Silas' reasoning gave his friends pause. If the attack wasn't meant to destroy the tower, then what was it for.
Far away, a woman listened in to their conversation. In the confusion of the attack she had place a virus into the vanguards computers, now she had total control over their systems and could listen in to everything that happened in the tower. She smiled, anticipating the death that would soon befall the last city and her old master.
In her mind a single word made her excited for what was to come.
