The Traveler and The Worm Gods (theory revised)

This is a revised version of one of my previous theories regarding the traveler and its origin as well as its connection to the Darkness and the Worm Gods. My theory is as follows, the Traveler we all know, is really a prison for a Worm God known as Alpha Lupi, for those who don't know, the Grimoire card The Traveler one, tells us of Alpha Lupi, (which means leader of the Pack or First Wolf) which basically tells us the history of the Traveler, which we can use to form a connection between the name Alpha Lupi and the Traveler. The card goes into detail, saying how it must now turn to its children to help it, but more on that later. Now I believe that sometime in the long forgotten past, there was only ever the darkness, and it chose the Worm Gods to act as its emissaries and enforce a deadly artificial selection. Now around this point, Alpha Lupi was very disgusted by these actions, and especially when it was one of the Worm Gods chosen. In its disgust, Alpha Lupi rebelled against its fellow Worm, but was defeated. In its defeat, Alpha Lupi was imprisoned in a lead and electroweak matter sphere the size of a small moon. Why? To add insult to injury. Not only would the Worm Gods continue their conquest, but they would bring Alpha along. As the Eons went by, Alpha Lupi began to learn about the Light as Light is connected to Life itself as we know from the taken King subclass Storm Caller, which says to channel the light inside all living things and use it. Where the Darkness is the absence of Light. Finally, the Worm Gods met the race that would be their downfall. The Harmony. During the Worm Gods attack, Alpha Lupi released its Light outwards, wounding its fellow Worm Gods and empowering the Harmony. It was with the help of the Harmony that the traveler was able to imprison the Worm Gods inside a small moon like orb, and sent it adrift in near Harmony world orbit, leading to the orb gaining mass and becoming the Gas Giant Fundament. Later, the proto hive found the Hive gods and gained the powers of the darkness. What powers exactly? The power to summon bolts of Arc,Solar, void light and even be reborn from the dead. Seems to remind you of someone, doesn't it? During this time, the Traveler was teaching the Harmony how to deal with the Worm Gods if they should ever awaken. Creating the God Wave to kill any race on Fundament, keeping them from awaken the Worm Gods, which the traveler didn't get to accomplish as the Worm Gods awoke and attacked the Harmony. With the Harmony defeated, the Traveler fled, trying to find a race it would teach and train in order to defeat the darkness. After leaving the fallen to died to the darkness, the traveler finally reached earth. Where it found humans, whom it believed would be able to defeat the darkness and why it stayed when the darkness attacked earth. Now as I said, the traveler needed to resort to needed to use its children to help it defeat the darkness. Now this is where the connection gets stronger. The Worm Gods gave the hive power through their larvae, the Worm Gods children. And what are the traveler's children? The ghosts. And what do the ghosts do exactly? They revive humans, creating guardians who do what? They can weild the void, solar, and arc subclasses and survive death. Interesting isn't it? This is my theory so far and is up for revision. Feel free to give me your feedback and feel free to add anything or take anything away as you will. In the end, it is just a theory. (I'm sorry I made a grammatical error regrading the Harmony. Everytime I mention the harmony, I actually meant the Ammonates. They were the first race the traveler touched so please excuse my mistake) Thank you for readings my theory

It's clear certainly that the Darkness and the Light operate through similar means, perhaps even being two different applications of the same power, much like the Light and Dark sides of the Force in Star Wars. I can also see your argument for the Harmony being the first species chosen by the Traveler, since it seems like the Hive are the first species chosen by the Worm Gods, but I don't think there is enough evidence to support it. I'm definitely not convinced that the Traveler is an imprisoned Worm God, this particular bit of speculation seems to me to be too far of a logical leap based only on the connection between the Darkness and the Light and how they operate. My own theory is that the Darkness and the Light are fundamental forces of the universe. Specifically, the Darkness represents entropy, and the Light represents order - either in the literal sense of the initial low-entropy conditions of the universe, or (more likely, in my opinion,) complexity, which is what people tend to think more of as order, rather than simply lack of entropy. The Darkness seeks to bring the universe to its final perfect shape, while The Light attempts to resist this ultimate end through organization, laws, and structure. Much in the same way as entropy constantly moves the universe away from its initial, highly ordered conditions, towards total equilibrium, while the recombining of the constituent elements in the universe gradually grows more complex from the initial conditions until it hits its peak, and then gradually decreases as the universe expands and approaches final heat death. The Worm Gods, which state to the Krill that they are not the Deep, but serve it, I believe were the first species to harness the power of the Darkness/entropy, and the Hive are ultimately their pawns, granted a small portion of that power through the Work larvae. The first species to harness the power of The Light/complexity, I believe was most likely the Leviathin, as the one we see in the Books of Sorrow clearly displays a connection to the Traveler and the Sky that is different from the donor/receiver relationship the Traveler has with species like the Harmony and humanity. I think the Traveler was created by the Leviathin to grant the power of the Light to other species, in much the same way the Worm gods use their larvae to grant the power of the Darkness. The Ghosts seem to be unique to Earth, as they appeared only after the Traveler was nearly destroyed during the collapse. I don't think the Traveler directly granted the power of Light to individuals, like the Ghosts and the Larvae do, but rather used its own Light to aid civilizations. It sought to foster order, organization, and cooperation throughout entire species, rather than to empower individuals. However, when this strategy ultimately failed and the Traveler was nearly destroyed, it was forced to change tactics. It adopted the Worm Gods' strategy of forming symbiotic relationships with other creatures to directly grant them its power. This is a sign that the universe has crossed beyond peak complexity, and is beginning the gradual decline towards the inevitable entropic equilibrium, as the ultimate force of complexity is forced to mimic the behavior of the ultimate force of entropy. But, there is hope, because unlike entropy and complexity in real life, the Darkness and the Light are paracausal. The Destiny universe is not deterministic, and so there is a chance, however slight, that the Light might yet beat back the Darkness, and retain the peak complexity state of the golden age beyond the predetermined point of heat death.

    • This is the kind of stuff I miss from year one and even earlier. Excellent discussion and good theories backed by evidence from the stories in this wonderful world that has been created for us players to experience. I just really hope the story isn't gone for good. I have a bad feeling it might never return to what we almost had, but I haven't quite given up all hope yet.

      • Aside from the fact that it makes absolutely no sense and you are pulling this out of your ass, why waste so much time on such a bogus theory? Ridiculous.

          • No bruh Black garden was inside the traveler. Then the evil Activision gods decided there must be more money in chopped up story for DLC.

I've had this theory in my mind for a long while now that the Traveler is a Wyrm or Worm. And since we waged war on the space dragons, it could not reveal itself. They gave us wishes believing they could turn us to their purpose, and we resisted. I would love to see how this factors in and I don't know why Luke's saying they didn't know what the darkness was would suggest that we will not see Worm gods, the Ahamkara in this upcoming game. In due time, my fellow Iron Lords.

                • You're wrong. Luke smith said it himself: cosplays, that's all these characters are. The traveler the hive the queen. All cosplay only.

It doesn't matter now. Bungo gonna eventually write off the darkness and pretend it never happened in favor to some watered down bullsh!t story. But I like your theory better.

                    • It was very intriguing and well written, but all for naught because bungie has no flipping clue what the darkness is outside of what is written directly on the grimoire cards.
