An example would be in art where adding too many details in other areas can distract the audience away from from the focal point or make the overall work seem chaotic or cluttered. You see the same thing in plastic surgery sometimes, where someone tries so hard for "perfection" that they end up looking less attractive. There's also the issue of fun factor. Sometimes you just want to hang out with friends and have a good time. Everyone likes to win but some people take it way too seriously to the point that a game loses its fun. Finally, there's something to be said for cutting your losses and moving on. Some people don't know when to quit and just end up digging themselves into a deeper and deeper hole. At a point it just becomes sad.
