I've been replaying the vanilla story of D1 on a new character. Our guardian is voiced well and contributed to the progression of the story. I love watching my character come to life and being apart of the world. The guardian interacted with others and talked for themselves. I don't understand why somebody (most likely the suits) decided to have mute characters.
While the argument of "but I like imagining my own voice as the guardian" could be presented it is no excuse to remove a story element that was already in place. The removal of a voiced protagonist is only reasonable if a story element is presented to counteract the decision. Bungie has not stated a reason as to why the guardian no longer speaks. Overriding the PC with an obnoxious companion is not way to fit in humor or story into a game with the potential of a voiced character.
However bungie has stated a new dialogue system will be in place and that is how we will interact with the world. If this is true and I'd presented in a skyrim-esc fashion then it would be tolerable. However having a voiced character would be nice or at least giving the option to have a voiced character would be preferable to a mute character.
Please give me your thoughts on the decision of having a mute PC again. Please keep all discussions civil seeing as this has the potential to be brought to the attention of the dev team/writers and the points of both sides could be taken into account when deciding on future installments.

I'm happy we're mute. Instead of "Think you can kill a god?" "Don't think I have a choice." I would have preferred my guardian to say "Easily."
