bungie did an AMA with IGN today
one of the questions was if our characters will remain muted, with a simple reply "yup"
- - -
first off, it was not in the original dream of bungie studios to have mute characters - - they never felt that way with Halo, and went through the trouble to have * * * SIX * * * different main character voices for vanilla destiny
i think they are just lazy and don't want to spend money on good voice actors they deem "non-essential" - - as it stands right now, * * * GHOST * * * is the main character of the Destiny franchise and our controlled characters are just the supporting cast to his journey
your thoughts?

I really miss it when my character could talk, this is just sad. :( I played the game with each class and yet it was the same thing for each of em, I'm so depressed right now I'm probably not going to play it anymore an just go back to Borderlands. That god damn asshole in that review who said 'yep' I wish him dead, I mean ANY god damn voice actor could do the job. Hell I'd offer myself if it was optional just to have some sort of context. Without a voice for my character all I am is a gun with arms and legs.
-
It really is odd they cut voices for player-characters; on the end credits when listing the cast, there are six actors billed by the studio, suggesting there originally were and then decided to ditch them.
-
Because if we knew prior alot of people wouldn't have bought it, i have a worse pit in my stomach than when i was playing mass effect andromeda. -blam!- bungie.
-
Its pretty dumb that the character grunt and scream after a fall and jumping but they don't talk. What gives?
-
I think its done for budget constraints in the VA department, which is quite frankly absurd in a major triple A release title such as this. Cutting corners whenever possible, another example where corporate makes changes that influences the game.

Edited by Wolf_Odinson: 7/31/2017 8:15:24 AMGiven the sh!t storms that have rained down upon them, on BOTH sides of the Dinklage / North ghost issue, can you not see how ridiculous it would be to have our characters speak more that just the few lines of dialog they were already given? "I want (insert name of favorite actor / actress here) to voice this character" "He / she s*cks! Re-record the dialog; this time I want (repeat as above) to voice the character" Rinse and repeat for each male/female/human/exo/awoken/titan/warlock/hunter in the game. The fact that people who purchase a license to play a game believe they're due that level of input is beyond mind numbing.
-
Where's the "I don't care either way" option? I've played games with silent protagonists that had great stories as well, so its not a concern. And the main character in a FPS is the character you control, not the one who speaks the most.

In Destiny 1, your character is a corpse resurrected by a brain-dead machine for the sole purpose of killing other walking corpses that are enslaved to a similar power. You have no memory of your previous life, and the only things that differentiate you from the scores of other slaves that you fight alongside and against are the gear you use and the face you made at the starting menu. You make no decisions politically, express no opinions, and your only means of interacting with the world are to kill, observe, and ferry the machine that keeps you "alive" to different computer banks. What exactly are we so worried about "carrying over" to the next game anyways? You'd drop all the gear you have right now if you found better gear, and at that point you're basically a new character.

rather mute my GHOST
-
Of ALL the things to complain about, this is it?
-
Maybe if the cut scenes were actually done well it wouldn't matter that we're mute. Unfortunately the cut scenes in homecoming alone are horrible and just awkward silence. When we are spoken to they pan over to our guardian, and do an extreme close up and.....just awkward silence follows with maybe a head nod....that's terrible cinematic story telling. If that's what we have to look forward to when they say "improved" story and more cut scenes then Bungie is just a sad and pathetic company, at least story telling wise.
-
Shut up with halo nonsense, that has absolutely nothing to do with this game
-
It's not like we're coming from a game where our characters are fully voiced to a game where we are now a silent protagonist.. So it really doesn't bother me at all. However - when and if they ever do add VO for our characters, then I want Jim Cummings to do the VO work for the human males.. Go for the eyes Boo, GO FOR THE EYES!!
-
Too broke to pay for voice actors. lol
-
Clearly, you are too lazy to press shift.
-
They actually said as of now they will for Destiny 2. Next time actually read the question and not just want you wanted to see.
-
Technically, our characters aren't mute. They make plenty of noise when they're injured. That makes it even worse. I can't speak when spoken to, but I can grunt and groan when falling or taking splash damage.
-
Considering our Guardian had 2 lines in Destiny 1, Im not too concerned.
-
I don't care.
-
It's Ghost that should have very limited dialogue & our character should speak more; I really don't think Bungie have it in them to deliver 😳
-
Although I'd rather us speak, this is the least of our worries.
-
As an exo I'D like to think I communicate through my ghost due to battle damage done to my vocal transmitters (totally not a bumblebee wannabee)
-
I don't know why, but I always imagine people who whine about having mute characters have also never read a fictional chapter book for fun.

Edited by GRAYFOX-SVT: 7/30/2017 5:21:44 PM50 cut scene's for Destiny 2!!!! We have nothing to say in any of them...yay. Guess I'll have to talk to my TV when my Ghost or Zavalla have something to say to me so that I get the " immersion " experience Bungie is trying to give us. If we bring this up enough as much as people did for " This weapon kills me to much in the crucible " than we might get some results by D3

While I agree our character should speak. It's totally pointless complaining about it. They are not going to completely rework the script, hire voice actors and record them and rework all the cutscenes in one month. It just wouldn't be possible.
