I believe it was for PVP purposes and the fact that sometimes even after several minutes has passed since the heavy drop, some people are still running around with machine gun ammo effectively using it as a primary.
The counter to this argument is that in the D2 beta, the fusion rifle gets six shots after picking up power ammo effectively making it the new "machine gun" of D2 so to speak.
Thoughts?

Edited by Forever277: 7/25/2017 11:59:45 PMthat's exactly why, because people who were decent could rack up tons of kills...i know I did lol, that's all I ever ran with in PvP ...yet another garbage move to try and make one of the most screwed up fps PvP games on the market more "Competitive" to the detriment of PVE, which was the entire purpose of this game originally and why the cast vast majority of people bought this stupid game lol..... and the most fcuked up part of it is that the best way to make the PvP "Competitive" is to be rid of their industry worst (imo) Network and Matchmaking settings. Give players a ranked and unranked playlist and dedicated servers and then you will start to be a competitive game. right now everything they do to try and make it a more serious PvP experience is jyst a big joke, and they're doing it always at the expense of PvE, which is the core of the game. idk, it's very frustrating, I love the game more or less, I have the playtime to prove that, but the decisions they made for the sequel were extremely disappointing to me. I was hoping for a really fun sequel and instead I got a tedious unfun slog.....i ran 3 characters and always enjoyed running through everything 3x because the game for all its faults was crazy fun and satisfying to play in pve, PvP was always a disaster, it had it's good days and it's bad days, mostly bad imo, but the PvE was just tons of fun....i didn't have fun with the Beta, it was boring and frustrating as hell with the awful new weapon system
seriously, whoever said I wish I had 2 primaries and a secondary OR a heavy with limited ammo? it's a bag of hot garbage
and glacial ability cooldowns and move speed. I couldn't even make it through a 3rd time, I barely made it through the second time. it just made me sad, hopefully they sort this shit out before or shortly after release but I have no expectations.

HMG’s worked, so they were removed! Fusion rifles worked so they were nerfd! Primaries were rarely used so now you have two! PVP is Destiny. PVE never was! Destiny 2 is all the proof anyone needs... Sheep, attack...You know you must...
-
Because they were fun to use, can't be having that....

Edited by GAMExPLEIGHR: 7/26/2017 5:06:33 AMIt's kinda obvious. Just another way pvp hits pve. 60 replies wtf 0_0

Edited by Dark Raven 2501: 7/25/2017 7:36:22 PMSo again pve has to suffer because of the idiots in pvp. great it just makes me hate them even more. Edit: all they need to do is ban them from all pvp content then they would not need to get rid of them
-
You hit you hit the nail on the head, my friend. That is exactly why bungee got rid of machine guns. PVP. To be more specific, PVP sweaty try-hards that were whining about how one player could get as many as 10 kills with a machine gun off of one heavy drop. So now, machine guns are gone. Every single change that bungee has made for Destiny 2 can be explained with PVP. Every single one.
-
Because they where fast, the one thing Destiny 2 can't have.

Edited by HollowedWayfarer: 7/25/2017 7:20:10 AMIn full honesty, I would have been completely fine with Bungie nerfing the damage on machine guns and putting them in the sequel as a primary. But no, they had to take them out of the game completely because of the f-ing PvP cry babies!
-
Yes, they removed the entire class of weapons because it was too effective in PvP. This has become a PvP game, whether we like it or not.
-
Watch Machine guns will be introduced back into D2 with a paid expansion is what I'm betting
-
The only real answer is that they hate fun. I will never forgive, but I may forget.
-
As soon as it was said I knew it like 99.999% of the changes was in the name of PVP balance. Since power ammo spawns regularly if something even close to Tunderlord was in the game well that would be game over man game over....Thunderlord you will be missed. Every time I loaded that bad boy in pvp I would hear AC/DC warming up in the back of my head....

As a titan than used LMGs almost exclusively for most of Destiny allow me to elaborate. Currently all power weapons are burst damage weapons that are condensed into 6 round mags and maybe 1 mag and a few rounds in reserve. BUT they all have a niche. Grenades and Rockets are AOE bursts. Linear Rifles, snipers, fusions, shotguns are single target bursts. Back to LMGs. They are NOT a burst DPS Weapon compared to others (aka 1 hitters) the burst DPS is spread over a 30 - what ever round mag. That makes it much much much more efficient at spreading around damage potential. Where as power weapons can take chinks out of enemies LMGs could take down HOARDS of enemies because it's ammo efficiency. To make the LMG viable they would have had to notch down the damage, which would make them into things like the Sweet business which are just ARs.

This is the kind of stuff that make "mainly pve players" rage about many of the major changes in Destiny. Most of the "balancing" serves little to no positive purpose in pve. The result has often been that even minions has felt like bullet spounges, with weapons that earlier was quite effective on them. That has led to the common argument that pvp "destoys" pve. Not always entirely true ofc, but it's a valid point and it's the major cause of seperating the pvp and pve players and making them turn against each other. Result is a bunch of posts that does nothing but curse Bungie for changes they make, until they seem to choose to fix the issue that gets the most attention, just to cool down the masses. Constructive comments with good ideas that could actually help to solve issues long-term, is far between and is completely drowned by the posts screaming for attention. There's a lot of problems in Destiny and I hope they've made systems in D2 that makes it easier to balance weapons and abilites in pvp, seperate from pve. I sure hope the MG's will come back in the final release. I, for one, has used them more than any other heavies. I preffer the high impact, slow firerate ones, as I use them for single fire. As I recall, my MG kills is more than 50% presicion kills since I use them this way I really can't see the problem with someone being able to preserve ammo and keep MG ammo for an extended time. They still need to stay alive the whole time. It sure takes a better PVP player than me to keep from dying with MG in my hand ;)

Since they were powerful in pvp, we now lose the entire class for pve too. Yet another thing that screwed pve for pvp. And Bungie still claims they arent favoring pvp so i guess everyone on the forums, reddit, and articles from major game sites that all noticed the same pattern are all wrong. But youtubers love the beta so who cares what us normal people think
-
All they need to do is buff grenade launchers a bit and no one will care about this.
-
The exotic auto is basically a dumbed down mg/Gatling gun
-
Edited by Akron: 7/25/2017 10:31:23 PMNerfed an entire weapon class out the game for PvP balance. If they really left them out of the game for this, that's like 5+ changes that take away from PvE to help PvP in Destiny 2 (and the only ones we know for now) Really -blam!-ing sick of it honestly. Won't be continuing with the game if this trend continues, and it is't looking good so far.
-
Bad people is why we can't have nice things. It's the one on the opposite team is using a machine gun as a primary, then you are bad.
-
I always preferred LMGs, rockets seemed to be the cheap easy kills
-
Of course. Everything in D2 is catered to PvP. And just wait, just like D1, fusion rifles will get nerfed the hardest/fastest.
-
Bungie said that a while ago.
-
Once again cry babies caused a nerf well this time a whole class to disappear. He still has heavy that's not fair sniffle sniffle.
-
Replaced with severely underpowered Grenade Launchers; you'd be as well spitting at the strike boss 😞
-
It's really because they didn't want people having fun with MGs.
-
Because PvPee?
