So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it.
All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time.
You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted.
Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta?
I'm curious...

Alpha player here. Granted I haven't played the beta, but from all the streams I've seen the game looks pretty good with some needed tweaks here and there. And before anyone says that my opinion is void because I only have a mere 400 hours on destiny, I'd like to ask: why does your 1000+ hour play time give your opinion any more weight than mine? Actually, one could argue that people with large play times will give biased reviews; these people are so attached to d1 that they refuse to accept change be it good or bad. I think it's funny that players in this community scolded bungie for making "destiny 1.5" and yet can't accept changes to the game. I welcome the new mechanics because I want to play destiny 2 (a new game) not destiny 1.5.

I'm from the beta, 5010 grimoire, and idk how many hours. This is a placeholder, I'm waiting about an hour to test this...

Only played as a Titan so far with both subclasses. I'm personally enjoying the Beta so far. PvP does feel a bit slower in both game modes but the gun fights feel a little more balanced. Supers feel a little slow on charge up but that could be due to other perks not yet available. PvE is enjoyable as well. Homecoming was great and loved seeing other Guardians in the Tower fighting along side me! That was an awesome experience! The Strike was very fun and had some great challenges along the way. Typical Guardians leaving after a wipe in a Darkness zone so soloing was enjoyable as well. Booting up now to try out the other classes.

Hey bub. I've been playing since the original beta. Have logged in well over 1k hours. Probably between 1k-2k. But sadly, only have around a 3.5k grimmorie. Because honestly I didn't care about it. But I'll add my two sense in here. At the original beta, there was a sense of something new, something unfamiliar. But something special. It was hard, it was frustrating it was fun. But mostly it was kinda different and new. Now. Years later we return with destiny 2. There is nothing "new" everything's "familiar" so the original shock, is really over. Now that that is said. They managed wether by accident or on purpose to create something "similar" they knew which ever way you sliced it. If it was too different people would've complained and if it's too the same people will still complain. But they picked the lesser of two evils. Making it "more of the same" which is good and it is bad. New story, new guns, same game. So is it good or is it bad. Honestly if we never had destiny 1 and this was destiny 1 people would be mind blown. But since we've been here done that already. Is where it falls tired. Pvp was balanced so far, strike was entertaining once you got to the final fight. We can really only see where it goes. You don't need to be an accomplished player to have played and loved the game for years to give a good review you just need to be a competent one. Lastly. The only technical shit that seemed wrong was some of the gun damage, the obvious speed of everything in the game. It's like they slowed down everything. But other than that. It's well how do I say. "More of the same"

Edited by The Man Of Steal: 7/19/2017 3:44:47 PMDay 1 D1 Beta player here and I give this beta a 8/10. D2 needs to be a 10/10 considering the hype but I won't say I hate what they did either.

My grimoire is high... the beta is garbage. They didn't give us anything to explore like the first beta. The new weapon choices will need some time to get used to... its weird holding weapon select to get sniper or shotty. Anyone notice the weapons sound like someone is beating on a trash can lid? The weapons feel, and sound terrible.

I'm not an Alpha/Beta vet, but I am a day 1 player, and aside from the common complaints (Recharges too slow, barely any super energy, etc), I am finding the beta quite enjoyable. The people complaining about 'The game will be the same as the beta, with no new content' have some weight behind their points, however there is the promise of the 'Lost Sectors' and treasure maps, along with the raid, that we know next to nothing about yet, and because of this I am more than willing to give the game time to develop, as I believe it will be a lot better than Destiny 1. So yes, I am aware that I don't meet all of your criteria, although I felt I would join in and explain that its not a complete failure yet. Also, Datto was pleased with the beta. I know I'll likely get called a Datto fanboy, however he does not fit the 'sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time' group.

Edited by Shaneosmitty: 7/19/2017 3:40:29 PMI originally played on Xbox. A lot of people I know switched over to PS4 as well. Now my sub 5000 Grim is pretty irrelevant. It bugs me a bit those nodes aren't unlocked. But that doesn't make your opinion worth anymore than someone who started in say Rise of Iron. It would be like saying you shouldn't weigh in on PvP when you have a below 1 K/D. Edit: this came off a bit more rude than I intended. Not going to fix it but I'll add that it seems you're on Xbox. You will be able to play the Beta soon and form your own opinions. There are some things that need some tweaking sure. It's not going to be perfect by any means but it's definitely a step in the right direction. The game looks great graphics wise. We aren't at max light. I think a lot of people are used to being able to steamroll through stuff with their overpowered character. As far as I know they haven't said what the max light will be. My one big gripe would be the way the subclasses are set up. Unless I'm missing something it seems you pick an attunement and you're stuck with those abilities. Can still change grenades jump and class ability. But the other abilities are all grouped together. Wish we were still able to customize that a bit more. But I love the PvP. The change to 4v4 isn't as drastic as some people make it out to be. I still probably would rather 6v6 but it's honestly not that bad. This is coming from somebody who mostly uses primary weapons though so again, form your own opinion on it. Either way, hope you enjoy the Beta man.

5485 on ps4 and 5000 ish on Xbox D1 beta player here. If you've been around a while you should know that the negatives overwhelmingly float to the top here. Most of the people enjoying the beta are... Ya know... Playing the beta. As for my first impression, I'd say it's great. The guns feel and sound great. I like the return of strike bosses having a ton of life as long as they are interesting multiphase fights. The areas are pretty, especially the skyboxs. The weapons seem relatively balanced in PvP within their intended ranges. Honestly my only complaint is that September is so far away.
-
The beta is awesome! I'm having fun! F all the scrubs that can't adapt to change!
-
They all hate the pvp because d2 requires way more skill. No easy mode bs special weapons.
-
I'm on XBox so I haven't touched it yet. Looks fun AF. More balanced. No longer is the game named Destiny: Ability simulator.
-
I never KDR shame but bro how are you going to talk trash on people for this or that when you have 6 characters across PS4 and Xbone and not one of them have above a 1.0 KDR in PvP? Anyone with an above 1.0 KDR care to weigh in?😆

I have 5.1k grimoire and probably easily 3000 hours with my xbox 360 and ps4 time combined. I haven't played any of it yet as I'm getting it on pc this time but it looks much better than d1, it will be easy to actually find people for raids who don't have ridiculous requirements since all weapons seem just as powerful as others in the same slot (especially on pc and xb1 as they don't have that ps sniper that looks like it will be important for locked loadout activities) and after seeing more of it the 30fps lock is fair, I played a little bf1 the other day and it felt nowhere near as smooth as destiny. I know titanfall and battlefront can do 60 but it looks like d2 will have much more going on (and I hope they really push it more than I think because some stuff in the tf2 campaign ran at a smooth 60 and looked a lot better than d1 and had more happening than anything in d1 had)
-
It looks nice... that's about all i have to say about it.
-
I'll let you know later today. TBH I'm not liking what I'm hearing.
-
Its the beginning of a new game! We are supposed to feel weak and underpowered. The Cabal did just blow up our shit and take the traveler. As the actual game progresses we will get stronger, weapons and abilities will improve and the light will come back to us! Progressing through the real game in Sept. has to feel like u are becoming stronger as the story unfolds or whats the point! Think Bungie did a good job with the Beta for what it is! The intro for Destiny 2. Yes supers and ability recharge takes awhile, weapons seem weak but i think thats the point of the Beta! Ghaul did just blow up our shit and kick us in the teeth. When D2 drops it will be time to go get our loot, get our light back and kick Ghaul in the balls! Become legend again!

Beta vet. Low grim score, positive k/d, I'll find out tonight.
-
Well, I started playing right after TBD/HOW came out, I close to 4900 grimoire and about 65 days total played in D1 so..... Aside from UI/graphic changes, i.e. armor, guns, animations, etc., I don't see any WOW factor in the beta. It's okay to play however it's not particularly overwhelming in any way/shape/form. Granted this is a beta so not everything is available however, from what is shown here, not a whole lot different than what's currently in D1. PVP still has dingleberries from D1 that may/may not (probably) won't get fixed as well as other issues with super charge rate, weapon balance, etc., that will need addressing. So far, it's ok to play IMO. I'll still get it whenever it comes out...especially since RDR 2 got pushed back until eternity so it'll give me something new to play for awhile.
-
You pathetic try hard. Can't stand self righteous morons like you, thinking you know more/are better than everyone just because you live on a video game.
-
This is a pvp beta believe it or not. You don't get much grimoire from pvp. I am a pvp player and am more experienced in the game than 90% of players with over 5000 grimoire. Grimoire matters just not that much,
-
Found the no lifer that thinks casual players' opinions don't matter. Have a mute. I hear they increase grimoire scores.
-
3000 hours, really
-
I'm a max grimoire player that has been playing since the beta, and was hyped for D1 for well over a year before it came out. I'm yet to play the beta cause I'm on xbox, but from what I've seen I'm super keen for it. I'm sick of how ability heavy PvP is in D1, and can't wait to try out PvP in D2.
-
Best fun I have had in pvp in a long time. Not worried about the pve... I will get my money's worth and once it launches, we will see where the story goes and such.
-
I enjoyed the beta.
