An interesting observation about D2 Beta Reviews

So I've read all the reviews and opinions on the D2 Beta so far; I've spotted an interesting trend in the opinions from the ones that are saying it's great and are loving it. All of these Bungie defenders have sub 5000 Grimoire, No "From the beginning" node unlocked on Y3 MoT and have 1000 Hours or less gameplay time. You will say Grimoire doesn't mean shit, but it's an uncanny trend that I've spotted. Any D1 Alpha/Beta Vets with 5500+ Grimoire and 3000 Hours logged have anything good to say about this D2 Beta? I'm curious...

  • I played D1 beta up until some time into TTK then stopped. I never played crucible though because I never found it to be fun. It's not that great here either. So far PvE is pretty fun. The strike feels a little slow paced and definitely needs more enemies throughout. Guns feel good, ammo drops need to be more common. The Boss is one of the best. Very dynamic.

Yeah, I'm day one D1 5k grim. Destiny 2 review in short: Story was okay Strike was uncompelling and fairly boring. Very Valus T Arc or Echo Chamber feeling. Bland boring but didn't look terrible. PVP is much better and requires actual gun skill and team work. Who is "good" at PVP is is likely to change a great deal. I prefer pve in D1, so I am a little concerned, but overall not bad.

The change from button X to O is annoying as hell. Being slow as a turtle is annoying as well.

      • Being a alpha and beta vet I will say that crucible is really good now. Before it was a wombo combo fest full of palindromes. I'm extremely happy with the game so far

I have max grimoire and I played the beta for about three hours. I completed the story mission and strike with a hunter, and spent the majority of the time playing crucible. I really liked what I played. 1) I like that damage is rebalanced so that TTK is longer. Two melee hits are no longer a death sentence; handguns (at least the ones available in the beta) are not OP as all hell; and the new loadout system creates a unique "give and take" system that allows for more versatility. 2) I like how much "tighter" the maps are. Action is tense and fast paced, even with the smaller fire teams. 3) The countdown mode is pretty neat, and I can see some tense matches happening in the future. 4) I like that your score is not defined by k/d anymore. This new trend of doing away with k/d scores in shooters is great and emphasizes playing to the objective, which we all know was lost on a lot of Destiny 1 players. 5) I'm pretty neutral when it comes to the graphics. There's no serious graphical improvement, but particle effects look nicer and there seems to be more stuff happening on screen at the same time, which is neat. 6) I'm disappointed that there weren't any major aesthetic or stylistic upgrades (like the menu is pretty much EXACTLY the same) but, then again, Destiny's minimalistic interface has always been great to me.

      • I have two accounts, this one and kgnast2, or two-point in raids. Lol. Over 5k grim. At a bar drinking. I'll get on and play some D2 beta later. Not worried, it's a sandbox version to identify issues. I'm looking forward to goofing around in the new shit. I hope most everyone is enjoying the soon to be released content.

      • I don't have to many dislikes just a few. The game feels fun and the mission and strike were fun. Some weapons don't feel right the pulses and scouts I used felt off. The exotics felt real good and "exotic" supers take way to long to charge up taking away the space magic ruins what destiny is and has been. AR and SmG's felt pretty good. Some enemies do feel a little too spongy. It's all easily addressable before release. It doesn't need to be COD or titanfall just be Destiny and what made D1 fun to play over and over great feeling guns and powerful supers.

        • Ummmm Crucible now takes gun skill, and Gun balance actually seems alright? Downsides being that there are lack of guns, and PvE feels.....weak. Overall, beta isn't terrible

          • I actually like it for the most part. Except everything seems slower. Powers build slower, movement is slower. But, if the story missions are all similar content wise to the first mission, well then maybe it will do good

          • I haven't tried the pvp yet but, my only complaint so far is the fact that our guardians do not speak. Our guardians need to have their own voice just like vanilla D1. Other than that, the story mission was really good. The fact that you interact with other guardians mid story mission is amazing. The strike is more of the same for me. Althought i got to admit, the war between the cabal and the fallen where you first spawn into the strike is pretty intense and fun.

I'm a beta vet and have very low grimoire, i've just never cared enough about it to go ghost hunting or something. Idk about this beta, seems very meh to me. I will still buy it, just because of how much i loved year 1. I feel it lacks the sense the sense of adventure the first beta had, with patrolling the cosmodrome and the tower. I feel bored after playing for 30 minutes. I am looking forward to the actual release where we get to start exploring though!

          • I back in the day played the alpha and beta on the xbox 360. i don't have a large card score because it generally never interested me to do any of the ghost hunting and all. i have around i thing 30 or so days in D1. I mainly think the beta is trash. I love that everyone is having to use their primaries now, but i feel like shotguns and snipers shouldn't of been destroyed. sniper should of stayed a special weapon/secondary weapon option rather than a heavy slot. You know. Where the big juicy hard hitting weapons go? my number 1 complaint though is the weapon balance. I hate being restricted to one weapon type, that being pulse rifles. I back in year 1 was a heavy hand cannon and pulse rifle user, in year 2 i loved auto rifles, in year 3 i loved scout rifles. The main thing i loved about D1 is the weapon variety of being able to switch shotty out for a trusty fusion, sniper out for shotty, etc etc. I tried to stick to my primary for most of the time but i some times switched to my sniper when i wanted to have fun. I don't have that leisure. You use a pulse and be able to stand a chance, or you use something else and get -blam!-ed. The story mission was a lot of fun but the ending was cheesy, i kept saying to myself during the cutscene "Yeah buddy i've killed literal gods. step in line, you're nothing." because the ending was cheesy but that's it imo super are a problem but in comp they're not, in a comp mode you should save your super. in casual you should just be able to do whatever and have a fun time. strikes aren't fun when everyones bullet sponges but i have no doubt they'll fix that.

          • I am a beta/year 1 player (started on xbox then moved to playstation after the dark below) and I have to express how much I enjoy the changes in the crucible. Whenever I die I know it was because of bad placement and not because of a two shot weapon cough, year thorn, cough. As for supers I really do not enjoy how long it takes, I would like to have a super before the game is already over (something I have noticed on control). It feels the same when it comes to PvE, which isn't a bad thing whatsoever in my opinion. Like PvP I want faster super cool downs. I see the balance in PvP, but having slow supers in PvE makes it boring and less exciting. So far I am enjoying the beta, as previously stated the only thing I have to complain about is the rate you get supers.

          • Max grim, way too many hours spent on d1: the beta is way more fun than the current ability spam simulator with 4 competitive weapons to play with.

There is one caveat to your observation: the only D2 defenders with high D1 game time and grimoire have Destiny Twitch and/or YouTube channels.

          • My biggest complaint is the fact that we have no patrol. I don't pvp at all on any game. Just don't enjoy it. So, basically I have a strike to do for 6 days. Yay! I Want to explore a little. Get the feel for my Guardian and how she reacts. Gave me a female character when chose Titan. Every fire team I was placed in in strike were doing speed runs. So, you really don't even get to take in all the cool sights. Wanna see what they spent so long making, not just run and gun.

I stopped caring about grimoire over 1 year ago, mine is still high enough, plenty of raid completions although I havent even done one in over 2 months just about when I stopped playing it. I still have almost 4000 hours logged. I play on Xbox and Ps4 where I have 3 accounts. Game feels slow, boring, repetitive, and short. Now I know is a beta but I was honeslty expecting a bit more content, similar to what we had when D1 beta was released. Besides that I noticed that the strike takes forever, I feel there is little diversity, I get very little power ammo, sometimes I dont even get a single crate in the entire strike, therefore I spend the entire game pressing R2, I am sure that tonight, I will have dreams to the sound of my hand cannon, that sound is all I can hear in my head right now, clack clack clack clack, and even if I stop because I ran out of ammo I can still hear my teammates guns making the same noise... clack clack... I think I am going insane. My fingers hurt as well :s lol Hope it gets better, not particularly impressed so far, I am still to play crucible and see. PvE wise it is nothing to die for, doubt it will hook me up as much as D1 did.
