The gender rate is pretty 50/50 not much to say here.
A majority of the population is educated to year 12 and onward but there's still a notable amount of people that leave at year 10, compared to older generations more people have been in school until year 12.
While I think that the increase in education is likely the cause those who identified as 'Non religious' now outnumber the previous census Juggernaut, Catholicism. Anglicans and those voting 'other' are also catching up to Catholics. This is only good news if you ask me. If you go back to the 50's the 'non religious' pick didn't even make 1% of the population, during the 50's Australia was a pretty non-accepting racist nation, we still had things like the 'White Australia policy' at this time. Strangely the White Australia policies started to vanish as atheism and education increased.
The current population is 23 and a half million people with about 2/3rds of us living in state/territory capitals. Population growth in capital cities seem linked to immigration with 80% of immigrants moving into the cities.
Australia's average age is late 30's-early 40's
Gen Y and Baby Boomers make up most of the population with Gen X holding a chunk, the silent generation (pre 1945) is rapidly shrinking. Home owners are pretty much just baby boomers, not the biggest surprise. With my bet being they didn't buy their house recently.
50% of Australians are 3rd generation or have older families.
Our main source of immigration is from the UK with NZ also bringing a fair amount of people (Don't blame those kiwis, New Zealand is a horrible war torn country) China is the 3rd biggest contributor. Compare this to federation year, most immigrants came solely from Ireland, the UK and Germany.
Only around 2% of Australians are aboriginal, this is still a growth and the population is still recovering from White Australia. Most the aboriginal population lives in NT. The aboriginal prison population especially in the NT is over represented and make up a majority of those imprisoned there.

I'd like Australia more if it weren't for something poisonous waiting to kill you every 10 feet.
