Power creep is a process that sometimes occurs in games where new content slowly usurps the power of previous alternatives. This leads to players abandoning previous options in favor of the latest and more powerful alternatives, resulting in an inevitable increase in power throughout the game.
I think the Power creep in Destiny 1 was abysmal. One of, if not the worst system I have ever had the experience of playing with. Now, I understand that power creep itself is sometimes necessary for a game to continue a healthy life and that I am not advocating against it. What I’m saying is, the Power creep methods used by Bungie have been detrimental to the players much more than they needed to be. You see, apparently, nobody ever told Bungie that Power creep is supposed to happen slowly. In a game, that claims to be about loot. Never, ever, ever, should a snap of the developer’s fingers cause all our hard-fought loot to become useless. Please, someone explain to me why I need to farm the same exotic weapon that I have had sitting in my vault for the last two years again? It feels like Destiny pretty much got smaller with every so called "expansion". This is something I hope they do a better job with in Destiny 2. What do you guys think?

 • In PVE, a measure of power creep is necessary in order to allow the player to feel the sense of power progression. However, power creep ruins PVP balance. This is the primary reason why they need to be separate and why Bungie's model even in D2 makes no sense. They have decidedly come down on the side of PVP over the last 2+ years, and they insist on consistency between PVE and PVP, which means power progression in PVE will likely be hampered by PVP balance. This was the case in Y2/Y3 and will likely continue into the future. I agree with your statement about loot going obsolete. That was one of the biggest problems of Y1. I thought Y1 was the most fun era this game had because the endgame items we got made a MAJOR difference in terms of reducing grind. Elemental primaries did x3 damage with appropriate burn active, rather than just x2 now. Power weapons were RIDICULOUSLY powerful, but they were so powerful and fun to use that even when you had nothing left to grind for, you kept playing so you could make use of them. In Y2, the power weapons felt like they made no difference. This was a function of strike boss mechanics and Bungie forcing encounters on us by not allowing us to bypass encounter mechanics with DPS as well as the fact that in Y2/Y3, they scaled AI HP UP and reduced the amount of damage we did to minions of the dark. The bottom line is that PVE felt like it was worth playing in Y1, whereas not so much in Y2. And that is why I quit. This was something I HOPED would change in D2, but PVE and PVP need to be separated in order for balance to exist in PVP and for healthy power creep to exist in PVE. That hasn't happened and we won't know that it WILL happen until patches start rolling out. Till then, it's all just rumors. And even if this does happen, how on earth are you going to feel more powerful when they replaced one of your power weapons with a less efficient primary weapon? It just can't work. Even if you scale HP appropriately, shooting a primary is just never going to be as fun as shooting a special/power weapon for that splash/burst damage.
