The sun was just beginning to set once I reached my hideout. I began free climbing the Wall, and jumped into the hole that overlooked the City. I checked to see if anyone had followed me--no one did--then hid away. I turned around to see that a hunter had beat me inside, and was now staring me in the face. "What took you so d*** long?!" Colt asked as he removed my helmet.
"Uh, running for my life!" I exclaimed. "I had to lose the City Guard, found out Wolf Pack is hunting me, met some crazed stranger that killed a Guardian so I could get away, then met two other Guardians that wanted me to join their City-savin' band!!" I screamed as I dropped to a sitting position.
"Wait!... Did the crazed stranger kill, or perma-kill the Guardian?" Colt asked.
"Wha?..." I asked. "Well, I don't know! Killed?! What does it matter?!"
"Details are important!" Colt yelled back. "So... Now what?"
"We need to take the fight back to Vanessa before she strikes again. She's already attacked one person, there's no reason she won't do it again..." I replied as I took back my helmet.
"Wait, wait, wait! What are you sayin'?" Colt asked as he crossed his mechanical arms.
"I'm sayin' we go back to the Citadel and kill Vanessa!" I exclaimed.
"Oooh, no! No! No! No!" Colt walked around, trying not to choke the insanity out of me. "What can we do against Vanessa?! We can't even get inside the Plaguelands without her minions spottin' us!"
I looked at my arms. The nanites that constructed them were jittery, but I had no idea why. "The SIVA can be used to create, virtually, anything... I think it's time we fight fire with fire..." My right arm had morphed into a red, nanomite saber.
BANG!! Colt and I rushed to the crawlspace to look out over the City. Another house exploded. I growled and punched the wall in frustration. Vanessa's SIVA drones were attacking again.
"Look!" I yelled as I pointed to a roof in the distance. An archer was firing explosive arrows. "It's Guun Ji..." I said through gritted teeth.
"The hunter?!" Colt exclaimed. "Wait... he's a SIVA covered hunter! Let the Vanguard catch him!" My ghost tried to pull me back.
I yanked my arm free. "No, they'll never catch him! Wait here!" I ordered before I jumped through the hole and slid down the Wall.
"Like h*** I will!" Colt created a SIVA weapon and followed behind me.
I rushed through the dark City, following the glow of firelight. The two-story house wasn't destroyed, but it was burning from bottom to top! "Help!!" I heard a voice cry out from inside.
I took several deep breaths, then rushed into the house. The raging inferno was already cooking my skin, and the smoke was making breathing near impossible. "Where are you?!" I screamed before coughing uncontrollably.
"We're in the kitchen!" The voice answered back. It was a feminine voice. I turned around, then rushed deeper into the house. I burst through a door and scanned the room. Behind a counter, a woman was cradling her child.
"Are y'all okay?!" I asked as I rushed over to them.
"Yes, we're fine, but--" The woman looked up at my arms. "You're the rogue!" She shouted.
"You're the woman from the marketplace..." I said back. It was the woman that called me out to the City Guard.
"Please don't hurt us!" She pleaded as tears rolled down her face.
"I'm not here to hurt you! I'm gonna get you out of here!" I had to yell over the roaring flames. I held out my hand, but the woman refused to take it. "Ma'am, you're gonna have to trust me!" I shouted.
The mother reluctantly took my arm, and the race to get out of the building was on! The fires were hotter than ever, so I used my free arm to create a SIVA shield to push through the flames. Finally, we were outside again.
Just then, a titaness swooped in, and retracted her wings, after landing. Her warlock friend also appeared after stepping through a Void portal. "The Protectors! Thank the Traveler, you're here!" The woman cried from joy.
"Oh, it's you..." I said with disdain. "What are y'all doing here?! I got this!"
"Hey, jacka**!" The warlock yelled as he pointed a finger at me. The titaness placed a hand on his chest and pushed him back.
The titaness turned to me. "It's kinda what we do..." she said while shrugging her shoulders.
"Where's Daddy?!" The little girl screamed. I looked back at the building; he had to be in there still.
"Get them some help, I'll get him!" I said before running back into the structure.
The fire had weakened many of the supports: walls were breaking, and the ceiling/flooring was beginning to fall in. I kept ducking, dodging debris, and covering my head with my arms. "Hello! Anyone in here?!"
"I'm up here!!" Shouted a voice; it was above me. "I'm on the roof!" The voice yelled again.
I quickly made my way to the second floor. Sure enough, there were chairs stacked up to make a way onto the roof. I didn't need them, I just double jumped up. There was a man, trying to stay away from the fire, but he was losing territory.
"Hey, come on!" I yelled as I waved my arm. "I'm gettin' you out of here! Your family is safe and waiting!"
"Thank you for getting them!" The man said. He tried to walk to me, but the edge of the roof gave out! The man fell!
"No!" I yelled as I rushed to the edge. My arm stretched out until it caught the man. I reeled back, and gritted my teeth. I struggled to pull the man up, but I was doing it.
"How are you doing this?!" The man asked as he looked down at the very distant ground.
"Don't worry about that!" I shouted as my arm slowly retracted, pulling him up. Suddenly, an arrow pierced my shoulder and shortcircuited my arm! I lost my grip of the man, and he fell again! "No!! D***it, no!!" I cried as I pounded my functional arm on the roof.
