I started a petition to add a flamethrower to Destiny 2 which I think would be a great edition to the game. I posted a link to it and if you would also like a flamethrower you should sign it! Even if it's to late for the base game it could be DLC. I don't mind if my ideas aren't implemented directly, I would just like to see a flamethrower in some way. I'd even take an arc thrower but that would remove the obstruction aspect, which is something I think would be neat.
The flames deal damage over time (DoT).
Flames also leave a trail of DoT in its wake, which only harms enemies when standing in it. This is good for area of denial.
Continually aiming at the same spot will allow you to deal more damage then if you moved the reticle around.
The flames are massive and remain in the air for a brief moment even after you stop holding down the trigger, which allows you to spread the flames over a larger area if you want. This can also be used to help advance to an area by sprinting while the flames are still in the air.
These flames are good at obstructing the view of your opponents and make it difficult to pinpoint exactly where they need to shoot to hit you.
Moving the weapon around increases the flames ability to obstruct view, but deals less damage then focusing on a single spot.
The weapon should be around the range of a fusion rifle to prevent the DoT nightmare Thorn caused. DoT is very powerful in PvP.
EDITED: It would obviously go into the heavy slot alongside shotguns and fusion rifles.
Final note, people hate DoT and for good reason, but this weapon would not be a primary and have less range than Thorn, so I think it would be fair as shotguns and fusion rifles would kill much faster.

I think it could work as heavy or elemental slot but I think it would fit better as elemental. But it does raise the worry of people hitting you with DoT then switching to another weapon to kill u quickly. What do you think should I be a heavy or elemental. In case you don't know elemental is the secondary slot in destiny 2.
