The five warlocks, and one hunter, quietly walked through the winding caves. There was plenty of ambience, and the very atmosphere kept the team silent. However, the warlock in the back didn't like the silence.
"Hi ho! Hi ho! To kill the Vex we go!" Isaiah began to sing. Everyone turned to look at him. "What?..." he asked.
The team faced forward again. "Hi ho! Hi ho! To kill the Vex we go! Hi ho! Hi ho! To kill the Vex we go!" Everyone began to sing as well.
"D***it, Isaiah! That's gonna be in my head all day!" Dakota shouted while laughing. Dakota's friend laughed too.
The team followed the twists and turns of the cave. Water from the surface was trickling down the rock faces, and formed a large puddle right in the way. However, no one really cared. Everyone placed one boot in the puddle, causing ripples and disrupting the balance of the puddle.
The natural formations became less natural as the team delved deeper. Soon, they came to a cliff that was made of Vex machinery. Everyone stopped and stared at the deep abyss ahead of them.... Everyone, but Daniels.
The hunter wasn't paying attention, and took a step too many. "Daniels!" Dakota yelled as he lunged forward, caught the Guardian's cloak, then yanked him back!
Daniels fell to his back, and tried to slow his breathing. His heart was pumping, and his life had flashed before his eyes. He looked at the warlock who was sitting beside him. "See... We tell y'all our cloaks serve a purpose..." Daniels said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Get up, Hunter!" Brian demanded as he yanked the hunter up onto his feet.
Daniels turned to the warlock. "I don't believe we have officially met. The name's Daniels,"
Brian scrunched up his nose. "Brian. Second-in-command,"
"He's also the guy that shot you," Isaiah said to Daniels.
"Yeah, I got that..." Daniels added.
"If you all are done, here is our first bit of loot," Master Jal said as he walked towards a strange container.
Everyone walked over and opened the crate, and dug around for anything useful. Ascendant material and ascendant energy. That was the only thing in the chest.
"What do the Vex want with ascendant material?" Clara asked.
"No idea..." Master Jal replied. "But, they could be valuable. I'd hang on to them,"
The team trudged deeper into the Vault. Everyone stopped at the next cavern. There were rock pillars floating in air! Daniels was the first one to jump on it. He turned around and waited for everyone else. Soon, the five warlocks floated over to the rock with him. The Raid team continued this for the next few pillars.
Finally, they had found themselves on a cliffedge. They shimmied over until they stood above a rock tongue. Master Jal and everyone else jumped to the outcrop, then looked at the beauty of the Vault of Glass. "Welcome, my students, to the Templar's Well!" He said as he beheld the majesty of the Vex constructs. In the distance, a modified Vex hydra stared up at the team. It didn't do anything, but its stare seemed to challenge the Guardians.
"So, how do we beat it?" Daniels asked.
Everyone stared at the hunter. "There are no instructions for how to beat the Vault," Isaiah replied.
"This is not a live and learn. If we mess up, we die!" Master Jal said as he turned to the team.
All of the sudden, a bright light descended from the ceiling of the cavern. Everyone turned to see the brilliant object. Finally, it reached the court below and created a small Vex conflux. It seemed to wait for the team.
"I know that thing! Vex sacrifice themselves to those!" Daniels shouted as he pointed to the device. All the warlocks looked to Daniels. "What? I've seen 'em before!" The hunter said as he looked at everyone.
"It's the best we got," Dakota said to Master Jal.
"Then, what are we waiting for?..." Master Jal said reluctantly before jumping down. Soon, everyone else dropped down as well.
"We have to cover this thing," Daniels said as he reloaded his scout rifle. "Keep the Vex away from it,"
The six Guardians stood in a circle around the Vex device. Everyone loaded their weapons and waited for the Vex. Soon, the onslaught of goblins flooded the stone court! "Take them down!" Master Jal yelled as he fired bursts of bullets at the machines. The other Guardians shot at Vex coming from a different direction.
Suddenly, Daniels fell to the ground, dead! A bright bolt of data pierced his skull from behind. "Oh, s***!" Dakota yelled as he spun around. He pulled out his sniper rifle and trained the sights on the mind cores of the hobgoblins that were shooting at the Guardians. Pow!... Pow!... Pow! Pow! Every shot fired was the cause of exploding Vex.
"Look out!" Clara shouted. A headless Vex, drenched in a green substance, ran towards the team. Isaiah pulled a scatter grenade from his coat and tossed it in front of the Vex. Several Void singularities formed around the glowing machine, then swallowed it up. A puddle of the green goo was left where it died.
"I wouldn't touch that..." Master Jal said as he stared at the puddle.
"Guys?!" Brian exclaimed as he looked at the furious hydra watching the battle. Soon, it began firing axion bolts at the team!
"Take cover!" Master Jal yelled as he hid behind a stone pillar.
"Look!" Dakota yelled. The Vex conflux slowly faded from existence. "Is that good, or bad?" He asked.
"No idea..." Master Jal replied. "Did any Vex get to it?!" The arch-warlock asked.
"Don't believe so," Isaiah answered.
"We got more green goblins!" Clara shouted. She placed her auto rifle on a rock for support, then gunned down the Vex.
The five remaining warlocks all began shooting the Vex. Isaiah placed his rifle onto his back, then took some deep breaths. He began channeling Void through his body, then ran around the pillar. He jumped into the air and cast a massive Void nova bomb into the center of hundreds of Vex goblins that were attacking the team!
The entire ground was now covered in the green goo. A rogue minotaur came up from behind and knocked Brian into one of the puddles! Dakota spun around, then force pushed the minotaur off the edge of the court. Brian had landed on his back. "I can't see!" He screamed.
Master Jal looked up at the Templar. It began gathering energy from the surrounding area. "Brian, follow the Light behind you!" The warlock yelled.
Brian, with his hands out in front of him, began following a bright glow ahead of him. He couldn't tell what it was, only that it was brighter than the world around him. He stumbled his way there, and even fell to the ground.
"Go, Brian!!" Dakota shouted. Brian climbed back to his feet, still stumbling around. Finally, he was bathed in Light and cleansed of the Darkness. Just then, the Templar emitted a pulse of energy that did... absolutely nothing.
Brian looked down at himself. Thankfully, he was all there. He ran back up the steps and joined his team. Everyone reloaded their weapons and took a seat. They were exhausted.
"Um... we're not resting long," Dakota said. Two Vex constructs had formed on either side of the arena.
"Well, we can do it again..." Master Jal pushed himself back his feet.
