The morning sun had rose above the mountain. Its blinding rays had shot right through the rathole in the wall, where Colt and I were hiding. I threw up my arms to block the bright light, but it was no use. I woke from my restless sleep and sat up. I curled up in a ball and tried to stay warm.
Colt was already moving around. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if he ever went to sleep. Can ghosts sleep?
"D***, I'm hungry," I said as I held my stomach. It had been a day or two since Vanessa's banquet, now it was catching up.
Colt handed me his trench coat that hid most of his SIVA body. I don't know how that machine was standing: it was scrawny and frail, and the joints were poorly held together. "You'll need this. If you can hide the SIVA, the people in the City won't ask many questions..." he said.
"What?" I asked. "What if someone realizes I'm a Guardian?"
"Leave your helmet and cloak. You'll blend right in long enough to get something to eat," Colt replied.
I thought about it for some time. I didn't like it, but it seemed like my only option. I unclipped my burned and tattered cloak off my armor and threw it into a corner. I pulled off my helmet and let it drop to the floor. The chattering noise of it hitting had to have echoed throughout the wall. I wrapped myself in Colt's coat, then checked to see if any SIVA was showing. It was pretty well hidden in the coat.
After I climbed out of the hole in the wall, and decended into the City, Colt put on my helmet. The helmet sat crooked since it was too big for him. He jumped into a pose as if he had drawn two hand cannons.
I walked around the streets, keeping myself well hidden in the coat. Luckily, it had a hood to hide my face as well. I had spent so long as a Guardian, I forgot what it was like to live down here. My eyes darted around, seeing if anyone was getting suspicious. It probably made me look suspicious.
I had finally found a food booth, and waited in line. Colt was right: I did blend in. As the line slowly moved up, I began to think. What if I was discovered? Would someone call me out? Surely they would. Would the City Guard arrest me, or kill me?
"Sir? Sir, please order or step out of line," said a kind voice. I snapped out of my daze and looked around, people were frustratingly waiting on me, now. "Sir!" Said the voice again.
"I'll take a hot dog, please..." I said sheepishly.
"That will be three glimmer," the man said. I pulled out a cube of glimmer and broke off smaller cubes, then set them on the counter. The man handed me the hot dog, and I stepped out of line.
I continued to walk around, trying to avoid as many Guardians as possible. I turned from any hunter, titan, or warlock I saw. I kept my head low so no one could see my face, however, apparently my coat was not fully covering me.
"What happened to your hands?" Asked a high pitched voice. I stopped and looked down. A child, with the largest, most inquisitive smile, was staring up at me.
My secret was out. Luckily, it was a kid that discovered it. I smiled. "I have robot arms," I said.
The look of awe in her eyes was priceless. "Can I touch it?!" She asked.
"...Sure..." I said reluctantly. It was an odd request. I crouched down and stuck out my arm, making sure the sleeve covered it.
The kid patted my arm. "Wow! It's a robot arm!" Suddenly, a SIVA tendril struck the kid's hand! "Ow!" She began to cry as she held her wrist. I reeled back my arm, and fear flushed through me.
The girl's mother stormed my way. "Hey! Don't hit my child like-- Is that... SIVA?..."
"Time to go!" I said as I ran off.
"He's here!! He's here!! The rogue Guardian is here!!" Cried the woman. It wasn't long before I could hear the sound of the heavy footfall of running Guardians.
I ran around a corner, but several defenders with void riot shields cut me off. I turned back around, but the pursuing team caught up to me. The whole crossroads was blocked off by City Guards. I finally stopped and waited.
"What do we do, ma'am?" A Guardian asked.
"We have orders to kill on sight!" Said the titaness that was chasing me before.
"Of course y'all do..." I grumbled.
The ring of titans slowly closed around me. I heard the sound of a hammer being pulled back, from behind me. I snapped around to see a hand cannon pointed at my face. Time slowed down as I watched the Guardian's trigger finger tense up; adrenaline was pumping like never before.
I grabbed the barrel of the weapon and pointed it to the ground before he shot! I punched the titan in the face, then yanked the gun free and threw it away. A titaness began running up from behind! I double jumped over her, causing her to crash into another. When I landed, I felt the blunt force of a fist crossing my jaw. I fell to the ground, then tried to adjust my chin.
I got back on my feet and began punching the titan back: jab, jab, jab, uppercut! The titan fell to the ground too. I turned around to see a Guardian with a shotgun approaching. I grabbed a titan's arm that had the riot shield, them hid between the titan and the shield! POW!! The void wall ate the scatter.
The titan threw me away, causing me to trip. The titaness captain from earlier rushed me, but I kicked her in the stomach. She stopped and hunched over as more Guardians attacked. I ran towards a monster of a titan, used him as an anchor, then spun around him and kicked the other three Guardians to the ground.
The giant gripped my shoulder, spun me around, then punched me in the face. Stunned, I stumbled back, then fell to the ground. I tried to crawl away, but he grabbed my leg and pulled out a sidearm. I spotted an auto rifle in arms reach. I snagged the gun around, hitting the titan with the stock. I must have knocked him out, because he fell to the ground like a tower, but didn't move again.
I dropped the gun and switched it for a metal pipe. Three titans approached me, holding their riot shields up high. I swung the pipe around, using my neck as a pivot. The pipe knocked an auto rifle out of a titan's hand, and when I swung it back again, it knocked her to the ground.
I heard something rolling under my feet. I looked down. It was a grenade! I tried to jump away, but it exploded! I hit the wall of a building and let my head roll around on my shoulders. Something felt off. My Light was being suppressed. "D*** Defenders..." I said to myself.
I struggled to get to my feet, losing balance when I did. When I finally got oriented again, I swiped the pipe across the ground, tripping two titans. I punched one of them in the face, cracking the visor and, undoubtedly, knocking them cold. The other titan came behind me, grabbed my arm, but I swung the Guardian around, pinning two more to the ground. Finally, I heard a shotgun being pumped. I turned around and looked at the titan laying on the ground. I stepped on the barrel, and quickly connected the heel of my other boot into the Guardian's face.
After the onslaught ended, I looked around. The dozen of titans were sprawled across the ground. I started taking deep breaths, now that the fight was over. Every muscle had finally began to relax. I spun around, then froze.
A warlock in white and gold armor, a huntress in snow-white armor, and a titan in cyan blue armor were staring at me. "Alan?..." The huntress asked.
Why now?! Why did they have to see me now?! When I was surrounded by Guardians I just knocked out?! This couldn't look good. I turned away, then ran down the street.
