Is there lore explaining why Ghosts can't revive guardians without help in boss fight areas? I have theories, but I'm wondering if there is some solid lore.

Yes, it's called a video game mechanic.

The metaphor I think might explain it is that of a flat car battery. If the battery is flat, you can't start the car on its own (ghost rez), but you can use another car's battery to help jump-start it (teammate rez).
Sunsinger self-rez is like having a jumper pack in the boot/trunk
In other words, the Darkness is too 'intense' for a Ghost to use your Light for a revive, but a teammate can utilize their Light to help revive you. Not the best explanation, but it seems logical.

I always assumed it was just for gameplay purposes. Lore wise, it doesn't make sense for there to be Darkness Zones with the Fallen or the Cabal, because they aren't technically aligned with the Darkness.

Edited by Zelrons: 5/7/2017 2:52:07 AMIt's never explicitly stated but it is implied. It has to do with how Ghosts revive you at all. Ghosts revive Guardians by grabbing hold of their Light, the essence of their being. Your Light can persist after death so that's why you can go hundreds of years before your Ghost revives you and be just fine. This might make you seem immortal but it's not. When your Light leaves your body it no longer has anything to protect it. Since Light and Darkness are antithetical they can not both exist simultaneously in the same place. They will eat away at each other until one of them is destroyed, usually whichever one there is less of. A "Darkness zone" is just that. A zone of Darkness. The implication is the hold of Darkness in these areas is strong enough to snuff your Light, and thus make reviving impossible, should your Light leave your body upon death. The reason as to why solo it's an instant wipe and why some times Guardians can revive each other can be interpreted as merely length of exposure or just game mechanics. The reasoning here is not as clear and is more open to speculation.

No cell towers in the area.

I figure it to be almost like some kind of pressure. The amount of Darkness on an area causes more pressure on a ghost. If there's too much Darkness in an area, a ghost can't push back against the pressure. But with another light nearby, the combined strength can push back against that pressure and bring back a guardian.
I probably explained that poorly, but I just think of it like a kind of pressure.
A darkness zone is a place where no light touches. That is at least my understanding.

It is referenced but not stated explicitly. But basically it's the darkness it self stopping the ghost, just like he darkness weights you down in Crota and what cayde fought during the collapse

They turned off the lights

I figured that the darkness has a hold over those areas and limits our ghosts access to the light. The presence of another living guardian would provide our ghosts with a source of light to revive us with. We get revived more quickly when the guardian directly gives our ghost light for the purpose of reviving us.

I don't think there is any solid lore on this topic. Just speculation on in-game mechanics.
