The Forgesmith
The Forgesmith specializes in reforging a weapon of your choice. His services are always in high demand, so be ready to make a serious barter. Business is always busy and since the Forgesmith works alone, every customer must perform certain tasks to provide him with the resources he needs so he can continue offering his services.
Forgesmith Quest
When you first meet the Forgesmith, he will send you on a lengthy quest collecting various tools, weapon parts, and materials scattered across the galaxy. In this quest, you'll have to farm for materials, open up chests, and kill certain enemies until you've collected the amount of resources he needs to continue reforging. Upon finishing this quest, you will gain Forgesmith reputation and receive a Forge of Honor Token. This quest repeats itself once each week on each characters.
Forgesmith Reputation
When completing quests and bounties for the Forgesmith, you will be awarded reputation. The Forgesmith will have five bounties available each week on each character. These bounties will require you to perform certain tasks, i.e. killing 50 Cabal for steel plates. You will receive a class specific Legendary weapon on Rank 3, and a class specific Exotic on Rank 5.
Reforging Weapons
Once you've reached Rank 5, you're ready to reforge weapons! Equip your Legendary weapon of choice and approach the Forgesmith. The Forgesmith offers two services, whole weapon reforging and single perk reforging. Players can only reforge the same weapon once. After doing so, your weapon will be locked with those perks and unable to be reforged again.
Whole Weapon Reforging
- Forge of Honor Token
- A duplicate of the same weapon
- 150 Legendary Marks
- 50 Weapon Parts
- 25 Motes of Light
Single Perk Reforging
- Forge of Honor Token
- A duplicate of the same weapon with the perk you want added to your current version
- 150 Legendary Marks
- 50 Weapon Parts
- 25 Motes of Light
In my opinion, this is the best possible way to reintroduce reforging. The expense and restrictions would easily prevent players from continuously reforging a single weapon until it's perfect. Players will still have to heavily rely on RNG when initially reforging and collecting those duplicates to do so in the first place.
What do you guys think?

I appreciate the effort you put in here but honestly destiny is a loot based game and reforging takes away from hunting the optimal roll on gear. Now if there was a way to decipher the best way to farm a certain gun that might be something of an alternative. Another Idea is to make the perks we know now into a talent tree on our guardian so when we wield a certain type of weapon it will act as though it has the perks you leveled in your tree. This way bungie could take the middle tree perks and expand on those as what comes on a particular gun.
