He lost both his parents to an early Militia IED at age 12, and lived on the streets for six years where he met his best friend and future teammate, Amanda Rowly. He joined the IMC at age 18 to fight the "terrorist Militia" and was promoted to Pilot at age 21, then to a position in the Apex Predators at age 23, making him their youngest member. During an operation on his homeworld roughly six years prior to the battle of Demeter, Jacob's team was ordered to fire on civilians who were suspected of harboring Militia officers. He refused, and along with Amanda, turned on the IMC. They managed to save several Militia officers as well as over a hundred civilians. Jacob joined the frontier militia, founding the Shadow Runners, a black ops unit under the SRS.
