My sole playthrough was as an Altmer (High Elf), and I sided with the Stormcloaks. They were really confused.

I've played through Skyrim so many times yet never got involved with the war. Never cared about it. All I cared about was finding and hoarding shiny objects.

As a Imperial I went against my kingsmen and sided with the Stormcloaks, thinking I would free Skyrim, I only help a man seize power after he did a questionable fight, and all his anti imperial bias to the point I just started slaughtering Stormcloaks after I realized my mistake after I heard "Next Imperial I see is dead."
