IMO things like vex mythoclast, no land, touch of malice, last word, and ice breaker are truly exotic. they have their own unique and qualities. vex is a fusion rifle-auto rifle hybrid in the primary slot, no land beyond is a primary sniper rifle with iron sights and bolt action, touch of malice is self explanatory, last word is a full auto hand cannon with a fan fire animation, and ice breaker has an entirely unique ammo economy. and these are just a few examples. but things like invective, patience and time, hereafter, gjallarhorn, truth, bad juju, monte carlo, universal remote, and even hawkmoon just don't feel special. invective simply regenerates ammo. p&t causes invisibility but it goes away as soon as you descope. gjallarhorn is just tracking and somewhat better cluster bombs. universal remote goes in the primary slot, with no other unique characteristics. hawkmoon just has a perk that can do the same thing as luck in the chamber but more often, with a too-big-for-its-playstyle mag size and range and stability stats of a white weapon.
