Tails of the Dragon Slayer -- Episode V: Return of the Deserter
Seven years had passed since my first hunting day. Not much new stuff had happened. We moved the location of our camp a couple of times, but, other than that, it was all the same. Almost every night, I would sneak into the weapons tent and take a look at that gun. It looked very similar to the gun that Shin used, but it seemed as though this one came first.
As days rolled on, Shin’s scouts continued to bring back news of Alec the Deserter. Apparently, he did become a warlord like that Warlock Iron Lord, Felwinter. Alec had taken control of an area at the base of Felwinter Peak, and he had plans of attacking to mountain.
“Do the Iron Lords know?” Shin asked Eguor, who was part of the scout team.
“They aren’t on the mountain right now.” Egour reported. “It seems like the Iron Lords and the Iron Wolves all went off to fight some parasitic AI known as SIVA.”
“They should’ve asked us for help,” Shin replied. “We could really help them.”
“Yeah,” I butted in. “But word has spread, and everyone knows that you have me. No one wants to put a kid at risk.”
“She has a point, Shin. Pari, while she is a good fighter, is only thirteen.” I hated being young. What Eguor said did make me feel better, though. It felt like I mattered.
“Well,” Shin said. “We might not be able to help the Iron Lords fight SIVA, but we can at least protect their home from Alec. Let’s gather a party, and start planning our attack.”
While Shin was gathering a team to attack, I snuck away into the weapons tent. This time, though, I wasn’t going to just look at that hand cannon. I was going to use it. I was going to kill Alec. I knew where Felwinter Peak was. I knew there was a weapon I could use to kill him. That man was about to find out what it’s like when death becomes an afterthought.
