A warlock collected a couple of books from the library shelves. He dropped them on the table, then collapsed into the chair, himself. He checked his watch: he was here for three hours looking for just two books! "All right! Let's see what we got here..." The warlock said as he opened the first book: Malik's Light.
"Lafayette! Lafayette!" Cried a mechanical voice in the distance.
The warlock threw his head back as he shut the book he just opened. "Yes... Xephos?" He asked, with a hint of venom in his voice.
"You got a call. It's your 'ol' pal, Kendrick'," the steel plated ghost, Xephos, replied.
"Mmhm. Of course it is..." Lafayette said, disgusted, as if mocking the universe. He pushed his rolling chair back and walked over to get his phone.
"He's on," Xephos said as he handed the Guardian the phone.
"What's up?" Lafayette said as he propped against the table. The warlock listened carefully, but his change in facial expressions said it all: he couldn't believe what he heard. "Come again?..."
"What is it, this time?" Xephos asked.
Lafayette chuckled after hanging up the phone. "Anyone else. I could've been revived with, literally, anyone else. But, nooope! It had to be, him..."
Kendrick paced around the lush jungle, and kicked rocks around as he waited. He looked up to see a helmetless warlock walking to him. "Ayeee! My little blue friend!" The titan exclaimed with outstretched arms.
Lafayette was not amused. "Shut. Up... What'd you got?"
Kendrick flailes his arms about, gesturing to the structure behind him. "Ah. Uh. Um... Well, you see?... Oliver, would you mind?" Kendrick said as he turned to his ghost. Lafayette turned his attention to Oliver as well.
"Lauffe, how long do you think this building has been out of use?" Oliver asked as he highlighted the gate.
The warlock cocked his head in thought (a little habit of his) as he looked at the rusty building. "Two centuries. At least."
"Wrong!!" Oliver yelled. Lafayette jumped back. "This thing is open, right now. That Vex, there beside you--" Lafayette turned to the motionless robot beside him. "-- is walking inside, right now..."
Lafayette switched between the ghost and the Vex. Kendrick nodded and smiled as he watched his friend try to understand what was going on. "That... can't be right," the warlock muttered.
"What'd you think?" Kendrick asked.
Lafayette scratched his head, then crossed his arms. "If what Oliver is saying... is true... It sounds like the whole place is phased out of time."
"What do you mean by that?" Kendrick asked.
Lafayette turned to his friend. "Well you see, the building and the Vex are no longer bound by this time line. They are working, living, whatever. But, everything in this time line is moving on without it."
"Say, what?" Kendrick asked again.
Lafayette sighed. "Think of a stick in a river. The stick flows down the river. But once the stick gets stuck on the bank, the stick watches as the river flows on past. This stronghold is the stick stuck on the bank. It's not flowing with time anymore."
Kendrick was so lost. "That, um... okay, cool. What's inside?! Anything valuable? Powerful?"
Lafayette facepalmed. "Wow, okay... Most likely, yes. It takes a lot of energy to phase, anything really, out of time."
"Hmm..." Kendrick threw his arm over Lafayette's shoulders. "So, how do we get in?"
"I don't... I don't know! You might need a six-man Raid team to get in..." Lafayette and Kendrick shared looks. "Oh, no! No! No! No! No! You can't be serious?!"
"Come on! Lauffe, you'd love it!" The titan declared.
"No I wouldn't!" Lafayette yelled in a high pitched, disgusted voice. "I'm an archivist, Kendrick! Arch-i-vist! Not some, hardcore Raider..."
"No, no. It'll be a casual Raid. We go in, have some fun... and rob it of every-little-thing we find..." Kendrick said with a cheesy grin. Lafayette made a disgusted face before walking back to his ship.
Lafayette rushed out of the Tower hanger, with Kendrick in pursuit. "Lauffe?! Come on, would you, at least, reconsider?"
"No, Kendrick!!" The warlock shouted. "I'm not ending up like Praedyth! If you want to get lost to time, knock yourself out! Plus... I have work to do," Lafayette walked across the plaza, leaving Kendrick.
"Lauffe, wait!" Kendrick shouted. The warlock stopped and turned around to listen. "What if I get Vanguard permission? And four more Guardians? You and I, just like old times?... Come on, Lauffe, I really need your help on this one..."
Lafayette dropped his head, then trudged back to the gold titan. A small smile did grow on his face. "If the Vanguard agrees, and four more Guardians decide to help... sure! I'll join your little Raid." The warlock walked back towards the apartments.
"Thanks, bud!" Kendrick yelled.
"F*** off, Frost..."
Kendrick laughed, then walked back to the hanger. He put his helmet back on, then threw a crimson, leather trench coat over his armor.
"We're not going to talk to the Vanguard, are we?" Oliver asked.
"Oh, no. Not at all..." Kendrick hopped into his ship and prepped the engines.
