Avilon climbed into a specialized room, in the back of his ship, for exo repairs. He began rewiring himself, and replacing his damaged arms. After the repairs were made, he pumped more oil into his system and waited for his body to reconfigure. He sat and thought about everything that happened: the Wolves refusing to join; getting arrested by the Awoken; escaping the Prison with a madman; now left on the run by everyone he had met already. What would his Kell have to say about him now?
The four armed exo's train of thought was broken when a blast violently shook his skiff. Avilon rushed to the cockpit, where a message was waiting for him. "Prisoner 1055, surrender yourself to the Awoken guard! Failure to comply will result in your elimination!" Avilon looked over his shoulder, as if to stare right through the hull of his ship and see the three Ceres Galliot ships chasing him.
The hunter gripped the throttle and banked his ship way to the left. The much faster Awoken ships zoomed by, but then swung around to intercept the criminal. Avilon deployed his cannons and opened fire upon the Awoken. The ships spun around, dodging the arc blasts. They began shooting back at him. Avilon's skiff tilted higher into the sky, letting the Ceres Galliots fly beneath him. The Awoken flew up, then leveled off with the skiff.
Avilon growled as his ship took more fire from his enemies. Each hit shook the Guardian around. He had one trick he knew would get the Awoken off his tail. He deployed heavy arc clouds behind his skiff, jamming the pursuers' guidance systems. Next, Avilon activated his ship's cloaking device. He was invisible, and the Awoken couldn't track him.
The Awoken continued to circle the area. "We lost him," said one of the Crows as she spun the ship around.
"You... lost him?" Variks asked over the radio.
"He activated a cloaking devi--" The ship was crushed like a can and was now plummeting to the surface of Venus. Avilon's skiff's cloaking system was destroyed, revealing the ship wreathed in fire.
"We have a Crow down! I repeat, Crow down!" Yelled one of the other pilots. The other two Wrath ships spun around and circled the fireball that was crashing onto the planet.
Avilon's eyes slowly flickered back on. He lifted his head up and saw his ship crashed and engulfed in flames. He pushed himself up and looked around. There was a crashed Ceres Galliot as well. The Guardian limped over and lifted the pilot's head up. She was alive, but dazed. Avilon punched her several times in the face, killing her, then laid her head back against the burning dashboard. It made it seem that she died from the impact.
Avilon looked up to the sky. The other two ships were still circling the crashes. "I need to get them off my tale..." The hunter thought to himself. He took the old, damaged plates and wires that made up his body moments ago, then threw them together in the cockpit. Plates had burn marks and were scattered in and around the pilot seat. Wires were jutting out and shooting off sparks.
Before the Awoken ships landed, Avilon had disappeared in the woods, still attempting to reach the volcanic peak that seemed so near, but remained miles away.
The royal guards inspected the crash site. Two ships. Two bonfires. Two bodies. "Crow-656 collided with Prisoner 1055's ship, causing both to crash. Both dead." There was no replied.
"Bring both in. Petra wants to see Thief, yesss..." Variks finally replied.
From some bushes, Avilon watched as the surviving pilots carried the dead Crow and Avilon's imposter body to their ships. The Guardian watched as the ships left Venus' atmosphere. "They bought it..." Avilon said to himself. "I can't believe they bought it!"
"Oh, yeah, they bought it..." said a voice from behind. The voice scared Avilon, causing him to jump and spin around. "But I know that trick..."
"How the-- What the h***?!!" Avilon yelled as he took out his shock blade.
Harkon laughed maniacally as he played with his Thorn. "Well, I was in a similar situation. Sooo... I gutted the other dude then stuffed his body with hay. I took his bones then arranged them to look like my armor... Ah, good times!"
"And... they believed that? One person boneless, the other with bones on the outside of their body?" Avilon asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, of course... The Awoken will believe anything." Harkon checked the sights of Thorn, then aimed at Avilon. "Now... about our arrangement..." The mad hunter slowly approached Avilon, who was walking backwards before being tripped by the bush and falling to the ground. "You're taking me with you..."
