I.E. If I've been playing on Xbox or PS and I want to swap to PC for D2, will my character appearance, data, and any other potential recognition of my progress be granted if I swap?
Curious for a friend more for myself. But it's a good question

We know that Destiny 2 will come out on PC for Battle.net. We also know that when they announced this on the forum it went through how to link all your accounts, PS and Xbox. All they really need is a quick retrieval of data, i.e. character appearance and if you deserve any rewards. They are also releasing the PC version much later than the consoles so it seams their trying to get the PC version right, to make it not seem like a port, at least not a big one, or they have struck a deal with Microsoft and/or Sony. Bungie has not said anything about this yet so the only correct answer is "We don't know." That said, speculation time: Your character data is stored on Bungie's servers so the info is there to be referenced as needed. It might be possible that when you start D2PC for the first time it pops up a launcher asking you to log in to your Bungie.net account. From there is could read your account data and show you what characters, if any, are available for import to PC, as well as giving you the option to Not import any characters and start over. That's how I would do it anyway, but I'm not savvy as to the legal exclusiveness any whatnot.

That is likely going to be a big fat NO. Understand each platform's storage servers operate on a totally different architecture and likely a totally different database back end. That means that the characters cannot be shared or transferred across family lines (PC<>PS, PS<>XB, XB<>PC). Plus both Microsoft and Sony specifically requested this NOT be an option for this game to lock the players into whichever specific model.
