Science, in its arrogance, is about to fall.
As a Flat Earth Theorist and major Destiny fan, I have always believed that the imagery of Destiny actually speaks to much deeper social issues. And as my recent exchange with Deej on Twitter has shown, Bungie holds strong beliefs regarding the shape of natural reality. And even if they subscribe to round earth theory, I am still convinced that they would be the first to admit that science as a practice is broken. And now the Destiny 2 trailer has shown us the next big thing: the tower has fallen! In all its pride glory, protected by the dead shell of a god, the heart of The Last City lies in ruins and chaos! But from that ruin new voices emerge: Cayde and Zavala speak out, offering hope for the weary and downcast. In the midst of this darkness, there is also hope.
That is the message bungie is trying to get across.
And I think they know that we as a society live at the end of an age. Soon, science will fall and times will seem dark for those who placed their faith in it. But just like the tower science was small and limited: it trapped its most powerful voices (cayde, zavala, etc) in one room. It allowed rampant corruption (eververse, xur, master rahool) to flourish at its very heart. Science has done the same in society, leading children to believe men walked on the moon, or that life would even be possible on a round earth. It makes billions in ill gotten gains from the nasa scam. But soon it will fall. The voices of reason that populate the internet are a force it did not count on, a force it has not prepared for. And soon, with its downfall new voices shall emerge from its ashes resolute and ready to lead. Like Flat Earth Theorists, I think Bungie will be one of those voices...
