Into the Hellmouth: Lysander

Hey everybody! Many of you have probably read my story, Into the Hellmouth (link to that here if you haven't), and many of you probably read the rough draft as it went up on the bungie forums, almost one year ago. Between that rough and final draft, I made a lot of revisions. However, one revision that didn't make it into the final version was Lysander. In my second draft of Into the Hellmouth, I decided to add in Lysander, who proved to be a truly cool character to write. However, I had to abandon him due to lore reasons, and simply gave most of his scenes to Executor Ho (who, in the second draft, was a far more passive character). However, that required me to cut out one of my favorite scenes - namely, this one. But I thought I'd share it anyways - see what you guys think. So, here it is. :D Warning; this is a little bit NSFW. Just so you know. Lysander knew exactly where to find Ho - he always went to the same brothels whenever he felt the need to get drunk. Lysander walked up to the door, and waited for it to open. Then, he remembered; places like this didn’t spend money on things like automatic doors. He pushed the door open. “Old fashioned,” he muttered. Then, he walked inside the brothel. An young awoken girl was dancing on a nearby table for the entertainment of some of the City’s residents. Thinly-clad servers went about the place, serving drinks. Lysander spotted Ho at the bar, finishing off a large glass of beer. Smiling, he walked up to the man, and sat down next to him. “Hey there,” he said. “How are you doing, old friend?” “I’m nobody’s old friend, and certainly not yours,” Ho said. “Leave me alone, Lysander.” “Really, Ho?” he said. “After all we’ve been through together - but I can see you’re feeling down.” He signaled to the bartender. “Another drink for my friend here!” he shouted. “Oh, screw you,” Ho said. But he began drinking the beer almost as soon as it reached him. “Slow down there, Ho!” Lysander chuckled, grabbing the beer from him. “It’s not healthy to drink that quickly!” Ho sighed, and eyed the drink hungrily. “What do you want, Lysander?” he asked. “Well, first I’d like an explanation as to why you voted against me earlier,” Lysander said. Ho shook his head. “What do you care?” he asked. “You’re my friend, Ho,” Lysander said innocently. “And I want to know what I did to break your trust.” Ho uttered a grim chuckle, and then shook his head. “We lead over a thousand Guardians to their deaths, Lysander,” he said. “Doesn’t that bother you?” “Of course,” Lysander said, more than a little annoyed by the question. Ho shook his head. “We’ve been at this for years, Lysander,” he said. “All for what? The advancement of your political agenda?” “It’s not that simple -“ Lysander began “I answered your question,” Ho said. “Give me back my beer.” Lysander sighed, and handed Ho back the mug. Ho downed the remaining beer in one swig, and sighed. “I’m telling the Vanguard about your dealings,” he said. “Are you now?” Lysander asked. “Wouldn’t that destroy your career? Ho, are you out of your mind?” Ho shook his head. “It’s like I said. I’ll be out soon anyways. Might as well try and leave with a little dignity. It’s not something I would expect you to understand.” Ho tried to stand up, but began coughing, and fell back into his seat. Lysander nodded. “Oh, no, I understand perfectly,” he said. “Which is why I slipped a little something extra into your drink.” Ho frowned, still in the middle of his coughing fit. Then, his eyes widened with recognition. “It won’t take long,” Lysander said, staring at the dying man. “Right now, your lungs are filling with fluid, making breathing impossible. Your internal organs will shut down in a matter of minutes. Sorry, Ho. But I can’t have you messing up my plans.” Ho grabbed Lysander’s chest, his eyes seething with rage. “Swine,” he rasped. Then, he collapsed onto the bar. Lysander leaned down to face him. “Everyone will assume that you’re just another passed out drunk - and you are, I suppose, just a drunk - that is, if they notice you at all. And when they do discover you, well, New Monarchy will be very, very displeased. Wouldn’t be good for their reputation if their faction representative was found dead in a place like this. I imagine that they won’t look to closely at you - they’ll say heart attack or something like that. Who knows?” Lysander grinned. “Maybe they won’t even tell your wife.” Ho coughed several more times, and then stopped. All of the light went out of his eyes. Lysander nodded, and carefully closed the man’s eyes. He looked up at the bartender. “My friend here has had a few too many to drink,” he said. “Let him rest for a few hours, will you?” The bartender nodded, and flashed him a smile. Lysander allowed his gaze to wander over her for a minute before he turned to leave. Ho had had good taste in his establishments. Then, he turned around, and left Ho’s body in his barstool.

 • I'm kinda curious, I've read your "Into the Hellmouth", would this have fit in between Eris getting lost on the moon and making it back to the surface? Or would it have been happening while the doomed team made their strike? Those are the only two places that I could see it happening, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't know
