How Hive Ogres Work
Inb4 the inevitable "Ogres have layers" comments.
Hello everyone! I’m The Muzzy and I’m returning to explain what Ogres are and how they are different than any of the other Hive. Ogres are Thrall that are tormented and mutated by Wizards. They use Light to wound the Thrall as they mutate them so that the Ogre develops an intense hatred of the Light. Because of this, Ogres are so rage-filled and driven that they can not even be commanded. They are nearest set loose like attack dogs. Hence the quote from Eris Morn, "Not even Oryx can control an Ogre unless it's Taken." Essentially, Ogres are mindless rage-monsters, not unlike the Hulk from Marvel comics. But wait! There's more! There is also a process by which Ogres are elevated to even higher power. This ritual is known as a summoning. Any Ogres that have not had the honor of being summoned hold the status of Unborn. It seems to be that Ogres need to prove themselves to be selected by summoning. This happens by show of loyalty and strength. An Ogre that has successfully passed a summoning ritual is known as a Reborn Ogre. We don't know how a summoning works, but the Ogre gets mutated even more and becomes absolutely massive. However, despite their newfound power, these Reborn Ogres are still uncontrollable. The Hive also have a lengthy process known as a taming which somehow awakens the mind of an Untamed Ogre (Untamed is a title reserved for Reborn Ogres). Reborn Ogres that are tamed have intelligence once again (speculated to be at least as intelligent as an acolyte, if not more) and the Ogres can now be directly commanded. These things would be incredibly dangerous to the forces of the Last City. Fortunately, every known Ogre that was in some stage of Rebirth has been slain.
-Phogoth was the first, we killed it before the Hive could bring it under their control. -Gulrot was the second. This Ogre was completely Reborn and Tamed, but was horrible disfigured due the the Summoning ritual taking place in the Prision of Elders and not in a Summoning Pit. -The third Ogre killed in the rebirth process was the Infantine. This was a Hive Ogre being infused with powerful Hive and Taken magic in its Summoning ritual. We stopped the ritual midway and killed the beast. (Summoner's Circle) -The last Reborn Ogre we killed was the Hive Abomination in the Abomination Heist. This was another Untamed Ogre.
Anyways, that’s all for me today. Be sure to keep an eye out for foxburton’s post on Hive Morphs and Sects. I hope you all have an excellent day, Guardians. Stay classy. I swear Destiny 2 better have an in-game codex like Mass Effect does, that would GREATLY improve the storytelling & background for things. Been playing since the 1st week of year 1 & I never went to look at the grimoire cards online
