Inb4 the inevitable "Ogres have layers" comments.
Hello everyone! I’m The Muzzy and I’m returning to explain what Ogres are and how they are different than any of the other Hive.
Ogres are Thrall that are tormented and mutated by Wizards. They use Light to wound the Thrall as they mutate them so that the Ogre develops an intense hatred of the Light. Because of this, Ogres are so rage-filled and driven that they can not even be commanded. They are nearest set loose like attack dogs. Hence the quote from Eris Morn, "Not even Oryx can control an Ogre unless it's Taken." Essentially, Ogres are mindless rage-monsters, not unlike the Hulk from Marvel comics.
But wait! There's more!
There is also a process by which Ogres are elevated to even higher power. This ritual is known as a summoning. Any Ogres that have not had the honor of being summoned hold the status of Unborn. It seems to be that Ogres need to prove themselves to be selected by summoning. This happens by show of loyalty and strength. An Ogre that has successfully passed a summoning ritual is known as a Reborn Ogre. We don't know how a summoning works, but the Ogre gets mutated even more and becomes absolutely massive. However, despite their newfound power, these Reborn Ogres are still uncontrollable.
The Hive also have a lengthy process known as a taming which somehow awakens the mind of an Untamed Ogre (Untamed is a title reserved for Reborn Ogres). Reborn Ogres that are tamed have intelligence once again (speculated to be at least as intelligent as an acolyte, if not more) and the Ogres can now be directly commanded. These things would be incredibly dangerous to the forces of the Last City. Fortunately, every known Ogre that was in some stage of Rebirth has been slain.
-Phogoth was the first, we killed it before the Hive could bring it under their control.
-Gulrot was the second. This Ogre was completely Reborn and Tamed, but was horrible disfigured due the the Summoning ritual taking place in the Prision of Elders and not in a Summoning Pit.
-The third Ogre killed in the rebirth process was the Infantine. This was a Hive Ogre being infused with powerful Hive and Taken magic in its Summoning ritual. We stopped the ritual midway and killed the beast. (Summoner's Circle)
-The last Reborn Ogre we killed was the Hive Abomination in the Abomination Heist. This was another Untamed Ogre.
Anyways, that’s all for me today. Be sure to keep an eye out for foxburton’s post on Hive Morphs and Sects. I hope you all have an excellent day, Guardians. Stay classy.

Edited by TheGorillaKilla: 3/29/2017 7:10:21 PMI swear Destiny 2 better have an in-game codex like Mass Effect does, that would GREATLY improve the storytelling & background for things. Been playing since the 1st week of year 1 & I never went to look at the grimoire cards online

Misread title... Read it as "How Hive Orgies Work".
-
What would Golgoroth be?
-
Just read this. Thank you for the explanation! I've had trouble figuring them out.

Edited by Forza: 3/31/2017 3:25:51 PMYou shoot them and they die. Delete post

This is a large multitude of questions so beware. Also I realize more than half of these you probably won't be able to answer, so please don't feel pressured. 1. What are the Hive EXACTLY? To my understanding, they were a peaceful race until they were corrupted by the Worm Gods some way or another. Is that true or confirmed in some shape or form? 2. Are the Hive what the Darkness uses to show its hunger and hatred for Light? 3. Are the Taken and Hive on the same side? Honestly, I found this rather confusing in TTK. Are the Taken and Hive on the same side? Are the Hive a sort of servant to the Taken? 4. To be Taken, do you have to be taken by Oryx? 5. How does the Hive ranking process work? Is every Hive unit just a mutated thrall, some tortured more than others? 6. What are the Worm Gods? Are they the Darkness's physical form, how the Traveller is the Light's physical form in a way?
alright I'm done. It's all ogre now.
You forgot about GOLGOROTH from kings fall like what about him.
-
I thought it said "how hive orgy works." I need to pay more attention to the titles, but nice read op.

Where's the best place to farm ogres for the husk of the pit?
-
But Golgoroth is simply a taken ogre?
-
I always thought that they where suits and there where 2 trall inside. One standing on the others shoulders. Now I'm just disappointed.
-
Ogres are T H I C C. H I C C
-
Edited by Poop Tickler: 3/30/2017 8:28:31 PMTL;DR: ogres are like onions
-
-
I like how oryx can't control ogres, but using memory of timur I can turn the ogre against the hive
-
This is awesome

Where did you read about Tamed "regaining" intelligence? From my understanding strictly speaking Ogres never lost it. The Hive derive power from suffering and what makes the Ogre so powerful is that it is in constant agony. This perpetual torment sends them into a blind rage which is why they are so difficult to control. To control them you would have to quiet their rage which seems like it would make them less powerful.
