best thing ever said

So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it. "There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors. Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now. A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know. You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too. You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC. Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it. Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded. We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc. Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong. Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game. Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience. We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right. Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space. Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall. 0,4% auto rifle. What's VOG again? Who is Crota? Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back. Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed. We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much. The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included. Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo. Then Age of Triumph. Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms. Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead. Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok. And there wasn't more to kingsfall. If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making." Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians! Edit 2: Whoa this is trending. Never been up here before, and it wasn't even my own words lol Edit 3: Number 1 trending. Wow. Thanks for everyone who liked and commented! Edit 4: Thank you all for the amazing posts! I'm glad people know how good this game could be. How good it should be. UPDATE! NEW WORDS BY BOOBEL!! "Thanks for highlighting my post. The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said. I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions. Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp. We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170. If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree. It's then funny to note that people said my observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless. It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened. So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience. I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed." Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Dang, is this a record or something? Someone has to know. Edit 6: Over 600 upvotes. Dang Edit 7: 700 UPVOTES BABY!

  • Well this is one side of the argument... scanning over this thread I see a lot of back and forth... pretty much leads me to believe what you have formed here is an opinion... one that can't be right or wrong, however Bungie also seems to have made their opinion... so in saying all that, adjust or play something else.
There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors.
This alone explains some of the reason this game has headed in this direction it has. These devs are only some of the devs that have left Bungie for various reasons. http://kotaku.com/a-ton-of-destiny-devs-have-left-bungie-recently-to-make-1784402854# This is only my opinion, whether you agree with it or not is your own prerogative. Destiny was a game that kept me occupied and my interest as most for a while. Even though things have changed there are something that hold somewhat of an interest about this game to me which IMO Bungie veered from it. Maybe in D2 some of that will have changed and gamer's will end up with some of the things that were at one point mentioned will be added to this game. Some gamer's currently like the way the game is and others know Bungie could of done a lot more then what they had to offer. The ones that know Bungie can be doing more are the ones that need to continue to speak up. Games don't improve if gamer's just settle for things for the way they are, it's not helping the gamer's and it doesn't help the company to actually make improvements in a game. This last patch is prime example of the community actually speaking up. Sad thing about it, It's 2 1/2 years too late. If you want improvements in this game well mostly for D2. ( Stop being silent ) and stop praising this company for doing small petty stuff most companies have already added before a game is released and not almost 3 years latter. This community needs to get tough on this company because it's the only time you will ever get any results. PvP
Everyone has their own idea on how this game could be and of course opinions vary, but who is actually listening to your opinions, suggestions, ideas, concept etc other then chatting with one another? Iv'e watched this forum for a long time and as most can see this community is mainly focused on weapon balance when there is so much more to this game then just weapons that has been ignored. Having the "perfect god roll" does't improve skill and doesn't improve this game one bit. yet a lot of you seem to think that having that perfect weapon that has that perk you want is the only thing Destiny was created for. Hate to burst your bubble, but having the current sandbox Destiny has there will never be any one weapon that you become attached to that will outshine the rest because all weapons have a time limit in this game ( It's a must to nerf it if it's used the most ) Bungie's logic is majorly flowed in thinking nerfing weapons and some multiple times with it's entire category is their (only option) to create diversity. Yes, gamer's want that rotation in crucible but it doesn't mean the sanbox has to make the more popular weapons become less of a value so the less value become more popular. Year one had it's ups and downs about it but IMO year one was fun and it was created as it was intended to be. Gamer's seem to forget that there was a few devs that made Destiny before it was released that don't work there anymore. This new crew didn't have all the say in creating the game as it is now. So when I see gamer's say that year one wasn't how Destiny was suppose to be, I have to majorly disagree. Especially knowing the creative director is not the same one you have now and knowing the original writer quit a year before Destiny was released among others that played a huge factor in the direction this game was heading before it was released. Things didn't change until after the fact of what happened in the process of Destiny being created and who was next in charge of running things as devs were quiting or getting fired from Bungie.
PvE
Year one is when a Guardian became a Guardian. The concept of become legend and more powerful was there. Since then Guardians became ( scavengers ) looking for that one weapon, perk, ability etc, grinding and grinding and grinding to look for that one thing that will make you feel you are that Guardian. Sad thing about all that? year one you had many things that made you feel that way and you had a verity of things that worked across the entire bored that gave that excitement, a purpose and a lot of that was left behind. For what, PvP? This game has so much potential, yet gamer's were cut from it for the sake of D2. The one thing that annoys me the most is how PvE gamer's don't have a voice. The community manager doesn't help that either. From where I stand in life and looking at a position like this, his time spent on this forum should treat both aspect of this game with respect. That means acknowledge ideas other then weapon balance, or small petty things that are already in the game. I've watch him ignore hundreds of post regarding PvE on ideas, suggestions, whatever that was great feedback that was positive that could of been brought back to the devs but was literally ignored. Yet, I see hundreds of PvP post he makes a reply to on how can we improve this weapon or perks ect. IMO the community manager has failed the PvE gamer's in this community since he replaced Deej. I run a crew at my work and I treat everyone as equal, there is (no favoritism ) but that's not how this community manager looks at things. It's selfish and straight out disrespectful. What I'm getting at is, how can anyone expect anyone to give respect to whoever if they are shown disrespect? Communication doesn't start with us, It starts with Bungie and how does Bungie get their info? Your one and only community manager. I get that the community manager can only do and say so much, but to ignore the other aspect of this game and it's gamer's on feedback other then just stupid weapons is part of the problem on why this game is where it is.
• Year one was simply brilliant. In early October 2014 five of us teamed up to attempt something called Vault of Glass? All I had been doing until then was shooting stuff on patrol not really aware of things like Nightfall or raids. It took us a week but we finally killed Atheon and it will always be my favourate gaming experience with the exception maybe to some of the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour matches that used to take 4 or 5 hours to win? The five of us went on to do everything every week. Nightfalls, weekly's, raids, Iron Bannana. Playing Iron Bannana with an untouched Suros or Vex gave you a sense of achievement, you felt powerfull. Even then there was no agenda to be the best, you were grinding for a weapon or armour. Not something called an ELO or to make some money on Twitch? Then Trials came and the slow rot set in and the rest as they say is history.

Yep. Bungie forgetting it was sold as a PvE game first will hurt them a little, but I think theyve been confused on what the game should be from the get go Amazing post. Bump.

      • Couldnt agree more. Beta was sooo much fun pvp lol didnt care what gun. You killed if you were better. Vog and crotas end 3 characters every week. Fianlly got that fatebringer. Got the vex! The grind for max light meant something.1 light level was the difference between surviving 2 shots or dieing in two shots from snipers in vog. now you can just get maxed in a couple weeks easy with no work. Exotics arent exotics and litter the whole place. I missed getting excited or mad when a ghorn dropped or even an icebreaker (but i do like doing a quest line for exotics just maybe make them harder abit) HoW for me started to kill the game for me after that

      • You're putting too much effort in to it. The stream where they explained the nerfs (where the developers couldn't find the big tree on their own level) The one developer says, and it rings true since the first day I realized it in year 1. "What frustrates me" What did he fail to say? "what frustrates players" This alone highlights exactly what's wrong with this company

          • What annoys me the most is that they made our guns, armors and subclasses feel like shit. They nerfed the crap out of everything and my guardian doesn't feel as powerful as during Y1 anymore. Base stats, perks removed, accuracy, stability, impact, range drop off, supers, burns, elemental legendary primaries, reforging, exotic perks, magazine sizes, special ammo, heavy ammo... Sure the game is much better now than during Y1 but the core gameplay got so much worse.

              • Yeah...... It's a thing. PvP players whine a lot about shit earned from pve. I mean. we all earn at least 80 percent of our weapons from pve. Why complain so much about the weapons when you could bitch about server upgrades.

              • Here's what I miss. Remember going into a solar burn nightfall or weekly heroic with VoC, some random solar sniper, and Ballerhorn??? Tell me that wasn't just a riot. Or arc burn with Fatebringer and Thunderlord. Or void with Atheon's Epilogue or WoC and Corrective Measure. Absolutely, completely, and utterly destroying the enemy. Why? Because we had put in the time to have the proper weapons and thus were able to ass pound a nightfall. Tuesday ritual was all three characters running weekly heroic and nightfall. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were raid night. Weekends were pretty much open. Then elemental primaries went away. Then burns affected us 3x while we hurt the enemy 2x. You can only whittle so much off of a stick until there is nothing left.

                • I remember...when I first got Destiny. I played the trial mode in March but got the full game in April 2015. I made tons of friends along my journey. This game was so awesome back then. You used to grind for hours in raids, crucible, strikes and not get bored. I remember when I first completed VoG our fireteam frustrated and tired, finally happy. Only to get ascendant shards and chatterwhite. Good old times :D
