Friday; one day until the Guardian Assault
It was early morning; so early, the sun was still hiding behind the Martian horizon. The patrol finally reached the Cabal fortifications.
"Clear us a path!" Victor ordered with enthusiasm.
Guardians on sparrows drove around in circles, shooting at the Cabal. The imperials had no idea what was going on! Soon, the first barricade was broken through. Moments later, phalanxes setup a wall of shields, blocking the sparrow riders. Instead, interceptors plowed through the Cabal. The massive beasts were crushed between their own vehicles and rock walls.
Guardians were driving in circles, kicking up dust clouds as they slaughtered the disoriented Cabal. Legionaries knocked a few Guardians off of the vehicles, but they were already back on their feet and fighting! A titan hopped on the back of a phalanx and broke its neck. She then, took the shield to deflect micro rockets bombarding her.
Hunter snipers on the hull of the approaching Goliath picked off many legionaries and psions. Soon, psion pilots engaged the Guardians with their own interceptors. Two of the agile tanks collided with each other, exploded, and killed both the Guardian and psion.
"We must push up the canyon!" Victor shouted over the radio.
Three harvesters flew from the Cabal base in the mountain. They came in and gave cover fire, killing a couple of warlocks. They flew in low to drop troops, but four Vanguard marked starfighters shot them out of the sky with a salvo of missiles! All around the Guardians on the ground, burning debris and charred corpses fell.
Now, several Guardians pushed forward on foot while the Goliath followed in pursuit and starfighters circled in the sky. Hunters sniped many Cabal from a distance, or threw their knives into their flesh. Titans marched steadily as they fired rockets into the Cabal forces. Warlocks charged with shotguns ready, and shredded Cabal armor with large shells of lead.
As the Guardians pushed forward, body parts-- arms, legs, rolling heads, and internal organs littered the ground and stained the sand. Each Cabal dead was a step closer to victory. But as the Guardians pushed forward, Cabal resistance increased drastically, as well. Heavily armed colossi led by shielded centurions entered the battlefield. Soon, micro rockets pelted and ripped through Guardians like iron rain!
Both, Cabal and Guardians were losing troops fast.
The four starfighters made another pass over the canyon. Once they were lined up perfectly, the titans transmatted outside, then shot to the ground like electrified missiles! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! The four consecutive fist of havocs destroyed the line of Cabal.
More and more Sand Eaters rushed to stop the advancing warriors of Light. They surrounded the Goliath and tried to sabotage the tank, but Cabal built those to take hits. Laurel tilted the toggle to the right, holding the tank in a circular spin. Matson, who controlled the forward anti-personnel guns, held the trigger and obliterated several Cabal. The hunter laughed hysterically as each bullet punched a hole in the beasts, as well as fling their bodies through the sky.
Warlocks jumped in the air and tossed massive nova bombs into a squad of legionaries. Those hit, disintegrated, but psions were pulled into the vortex and were swallowed by the void. Titans deployed large wards of Light around fellow teammates, saving them from enemy fire.
Finally, the Goliath was in range of the forward watch tower standing before them. As if to watch the Guardians claim victory for the Light, the sun peaked over the distant mountains of the east.
"Keep it steady, Laurel!" Victor yelled.
"Yes, Sir!" The warlock replied cheerfully.
Victor trained the sights of the solar cannon for the tower. With one shot, he could kill the Cabal command. He began charging the solar energy, and as the world waited, the sun rose ever higher.
"Fire in the hole!" Victor shouted as the mortar was launched from the cannon muzzle. Every Guardian stopped fighting as the brilliant ball of fire flew towards the tower.
The Cabal in the tower panicked, trying to coordinate their troops. They heard the cannon fire, but they could not spot the projectile. Their eastward facing observation deck had the Cabal staring straight at the rising sun. That sun was rising at the same rate as the solar mortar, and it was hiding the destructive projectile in its rays.
The Guardians watched as the tower exploded. Everyone cheered! "H*** yeah! H*** yeah!" Guardians jumped in the air and punched the sky! A titan dropped to his knees and rocked an air guitar!
Laurel screamed excitedly and threw her arms around Matson, who was cheering too. "I told you we could do it!" Matson said.
The Cabal did not retreat, but this did not surprise Victor. He never knew the Cabal to retreat. Instead, he gave the order to pick off the survivors. Soon, the Cabal and Guardians were back into battle.
"Captain, there's movement in the distance!" Said a warlock over the radio before getting killed.
Victor turned the cannon camera to the fortress entrance at the back of the canyon. The gears were turning, the locking mechanism slid to the edge of the gate, and rather swiftly, the door swung open. The titan in the Goliath was stunned. If there stood the Primus, then who stood in the watch tower that was now in flames?

Oh shit! I guess that was the warm up round.
