"For us there was no land beyond the Volga". This quote was said by a remarkable sniper and soviet hero named Vasily Zaytsev whose career was defined by his role in the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. The visual in-game appearance of NLB also bears a clear resemblance to the Berdan rifle, which was Zaytsev's rifle of choice. But if you thought that was all, there's actually more; from the research I've done, the Berdan rifle has 6 rounds in the cartridge, another trait the NLB shares. Plus, to top it all off as the charming (and deadly) cherry of the cake, they're both bolt-action rifles, which are known for being reliable, durable, accurate, and powerful. For those with about 2+ hours of free time on their hands, there's a movie called "Enemy at the Gate", which is a damn-near-accurate retelling of Vasily Zaytsev's career as a sniper. NLB fanatics will definitely get a kick out of it.
Should I do a another one of these? I'd like to! Buuuut I don't wanna pick the gear. You. You pick the gear. You pick my poison. That means gear = poison. Tell me a piece of poison, whether it be a gun, a cloak, or any kind of armor. Just as long as it has some depth to it. Even if there's only in-game lore to it, I'd be happy to over interpre--*cough* *cough*--I mean analyze it.
