Have you seen the recent Logan film? What did you think of it? What would you rate it? What did you love or hate about the film?

I went to see it last night and it was -blam!-ing awesome. I can see why critics loved that movie. But rip Hugh Jackman as wolverine though :(

I thought it was great.

I thought it was fantastic. The ending was perfect. I gotta say though, the deaths of Charles and the family that took them in really kinda weighed on me for a while. Their deaths were just so sad and pointless (not in a way detrimental to the film though).

Edited by Charlemagne: 3/8/2017 4:50:27 AMTL;DR: A pretty good film that a recommend to any X-Men fan who is up to date on the films. If you aren't you might be lost at times, but Logan does not rely very heavily on previous material at all. 7.5/10, though I'm willing to round up to four stars. Logan was quite the film. The atmosphere was consistent, it had interesting new characters, but it felt a ton of questions for the viewer during and after its run time, and not always in the best way. I am all for wanting to know more, but this film very clearly is setting up for stuff that will happen before with only the subtlest of hints that are few and far between. To be clear, though, I liked it. I didn't love it. It was a solid film, but it wasn't anything close to a masterpiece and I wouldn't argue that it was the best super hero film, though I could see it being up there. It was, as many would assume, very dark and I appreciated that diversion from the norm. It was not, though, the strongest story in a Marvel (including X-Men) film and cut itself short by both not acknowledging or relying on past material or anything that happened between Days of Future Past/Apocalypse and Logan. There were several sections in the middle that just took too long for the content within them, especially just after the beginning, and they were unfortunately very important scenes. By that, I mean that the scenes contained interesting content, but spread it out too much to be as engaging as they were supposed to be. The hospital scenes and the background of the nurse, for instance, were very intriguing, but somehow both didn't provide enough background information on the X-23 project while also proving a lot of screentime for people and things that didn't end up resonating with me. I liked that both the audience and Logan were at a disadvantage for information, but they didn't wrap up those loose ties in the end for the most part. The action was really good. It was so, so refreshing to see an aged hero. Seeing someone fight well after their prime and have to struggle with every second of it was refreshing from the likes of the Avengers, Apocalypse, and most other super hero films. I felt that, acting-wise, this was the pinnacle we've seen for Hugh Jackman as Logan. As for the two other main characters, they were both wonderful. Professor X, as always, was a welcomed character and the way he was portrayed was almost painful to watch, but in a very good way. X-23 (Lara) was primarily acted through physicality and I absolutely loved that about her. I think both were great. Even the recasted mutant who was taking care of Charles (I forget his name) was very well done. I cannot remember the main villains name. They didn't go nearly into enough detail on his character and the writing completely let him down. Part didn't make sense, but was mainly that his character got very little screentime and, literally, no time for the audience to learn anything useful about him that would make use interested in him. He was a very weak villain due to the writing. Overall, though, it was a pretty good film. I recommend it. I know I've been pretty hard on it, but the rest of the film is good. Even the lesser bits aren't "unendurable" or something. It was more so just a pretty good film that had its highs and lows. Oh, and X-24 was garbage. Writing this was even an afterthought. That "character" felt like it was thrown in there to actually challenge Wolverine. The introduction was terrible, there was no proper history to it, and so on. If you're watching this film for the conflict on a non-physical level, you'll be disappointed. If you're watching it for the action and character depth from the main trio, you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit. The deaths of Charles and Logan were both done very well, though. How Charles died was alright, but the way they captured his death was wonderfully done. Him not putting pressure on his wounds showed that he was truly ready to go. For Logan, I part of me would have preferred for him to have been holding the gun with the adamantium bullet in it while the others ran. Then you just hear a bang and never see either of them again. Still, I liked his passing a lot, though the Johnny Cash lyrics felt really out of place and as though they only existed due to that one trailer and vice versa. I think silence would have worked much better as you watched Lara stand over the grave, mirroring how she was when she met him. Still, a wonderful seen. 7.5/10 or ****
