So it's been another crazy week of Destiny news and passionate posts as Bungie dropped the news of the fresh start for D2. Today Paul Tassi of Forbes joins us on bnet to talk about Destiny, where we've where we may go.
What are your thoughts about the announcement? Are you happy for a fresh start or are you going to miss the things left behind?
-
Thrilled for the fresh start. While I may miss some gear, my hope is that D2 will be a complete reset, free from so many of the problems that plagued Destiny.
-
All I want to keep are my cosmetic kiosks. I've worked hard for those emblems and shaders and ships. My collections are nearly done, I want them to come with me. Getting a few goodies for being a veteran player is awesome, but the greatest honour that Bungie could give us are those kiosks. As for losing our character progress and vault, I'm okay with that entirely. My vault is over packed and I'm ready for a cleanse, I just can't bring myself to delete anything.

Getting even more famous now, aren't we, lol. About to go and listen right now. 👍

Hey, he's the guy who said the crucible needed to be quarantined from the rest of the game back in October 2014. Nailed it on the head about how you can't balance different powered weapons from the PvE side in a PvP mode. Might want to listen to him, he saw this mess coming a month after release.
-
Yeah in a way I'm gong to miss my old guy even though some late nights in the tower I would call him names but at the same time I'm excited to move on to more new and exciting things! :)

New game, new start... is cool

It's like cleaning your garage. Do you go in and try moving stuff around all the clutter or just take it all out and start over. If Destiny 1 was running like an well oiled machine I would say just add to it and keep going, however it's a mess. Destiny 1 is like a leaking dam, they patch 1 hole and 3 more take its place. I love this game and have many fond yr1 memories but I'm ready for a clean slate.

I liked the thought of a continuous storyline where I could keep my character & the weapons I grew to love. That is what drew me to play Destiny to begin with, as I do not have large amounts of free time to play many different games. I could escape to Destiny, be my character for a few hours & be happy with that. So, not sure I am going to move on to D2. I just do not feel like Bungie really lived up to the press about the game. 1.) Constant weapon tuning to any weapon that people got good with & started using too much. Broke the weapons. 2.) Became PvP focused. PvP is fun & nice when the storyline gets stale or you & your friends want to punch each other. 3.) Storyline went nowhere. 4.) Beautifully constructed world, but do not explore it beyond our carefully constructed areas or you will die. 5.) Misleading promises to get us to pre-order. 6.) Wierd set up for holding stuff. Why can I hold 1500 armour pieces, but only 200 wormspore? Why can't I put my glimmer in a bank & save up? 7.) Xur.....why is Xur friggin useless now? 8.) Why is the Gunsmith basically useless? He is a gun smith, as in he can build guns, so why can't I get him to build me a badass gun out of 2 or 3 guns that are decent? 9.) Where is this story going? 10.) The Cabal......the most elite mikitary force in the Galaxy or the Universe or the kitchen......Yet we never really explored them....... 11.) Lots of great ideas, but no story to link them, unless you go to the app & read the grimoire cards, which is awesome when you are sitting on the throne, but still did not really tie the story together for a lot of people. 12.) Updates to tell us they will update us at a later time....uh, what? Do not get me wrong, I love this game, but you can love something & see its flaws. There was so much potential here, that yeah, maybe a fresh slate will be the best move, but I am leery now. I will probably wait until the reviews are out on D2, from the regular gamers, not the streamers or the magazine types, but from the community in general. Sorry about the wall of text, it all just came pouring out of me.

Keep armor, not weapons. Maybe do a thing like Terraria did and have a vanity set and an actual set with stats.

Changes must occur internally at Bungie. They have proven themselves somewhat inept, incapable & irresponsible when it comes to D1 as a whole. The plethora of issues and screw-ups are well documented. The fact that Destiny has degenerated into a mediocre title at best further solidifies the mismanagement. That's a lot for the fanboys to comprehend. Sadly, it's the brutal Truth.

Thanks for this. I'm half way through and really enjoying it. I've never listened to you guys before. I will do so more in the future.
-
I'm completely fine with a fresh start. Happens in plenty of games.

You should really reconsider using (in through the outdoor)

I have mixed feelings on the subject. I'm perfectly willing to start fresh with a clean slate, but it all depends on what we get in return. I don't want it to be like the transition to TTK, where Y1 players had to leave behind their hard earned items (Y2 items are easy to earn by comparison), only to have them replaced with gear that really wasn't better than what we had in Y1 - it was just higher light level. And in TTK, they abandoned a solid foundation in favor of trying to please the casual masses which really lead to the irrelevance of endgame PVE and put more emphasis on PVP as endgame content. In order to make the fresh start palatable, I need to see 1) a return to the Y1 foundation - the best rewards in the game come from endgame RNG; less emphasis on quests for ELITE level items; 2) Separation of PVE from PVP. Not just elimination of quests that take you into PVP to earn PVE guns and vice versa, but full separation of balance patches. 3) Dedicated servers for both PVE and PVP. And 4) Better netcode. If a fresh start was necessary to get all of that and more? Then it would be well worth it, and I'd do it in a heartbeat - so long as it was the last such event. If not, there's really no reason for me to continue to play the game as the fresh start, combined with other issues in Y2 essentially show that the FPS crowd has won the battle for the soul of Destiny - and that just isn't what I signed up for when I preordered Vanilla and bought the season pass.

Edited by JHarv: 3/6/2017 6:23:53 PMHe's been bang on with his articles on Destiny and I really like reading his material. Will be a very interesting interview! The guy wants to love Destiny just as much as we do, but he has a nice way of putting all my disgruntled, frustrating opinions into words. Bump so I can check it out after work!

Like they said . What's the point ? Is this part MMO or not? Other MMOs allow you the continuation of your character. It's doesn't have to be all but this is crap. If I want a new game , there are hundreds of them out there . Destiny 2 won't be any different than any other game on the market . Like they said " What's the point "?

I expected a fresh start for D2 seeing as how everything in D1 is completely FUBAR at this point. The one thing I WANTED as a part of the fresh start; change my character's looks. I'm hoping we have the option to do this otherwise I would literally be starting from scratch. Still on the fence about D2. I'm sure it'll get hyped up like everything else but, over time, it'll just be another repeat of D1. More stupid nerfs that no one asked for/wanted/hinted at and the dev team grabbing their ankles to satisfy whatever the streamers, i.e. the "community", complain about.
-
Idgaf, i would like my sparrows and ships though. Is not like bungie gonna do anything worthwhile with them anyway, so let me keep them. I like mmorpg's cause im a hoarder and like cosmetic stuffz. Even though destiny pretends to be a diet mmo
-
I thought Destiny would take on a mmorpg fps hybrid but didn't whatsoever by scrapping the 10 year plan. So now I switched to Elder Scrolls Online.

Edited by aliasK: 3/6/2017 6:28:28 PMGoing to love the fresh start

D2 needs dedicated servers and ranked playlists !!

Oh this is the first time seeing you post something in #Destiny. Bump
