Never played a Castlevania game in my life, but I saw a couple of the ports for sale on 360 a little while ago and I've been playing it constantly.
I just decided to get the one I heard the most about, so Symphony of the Night was it, and boy this game is awesome. Tough as hell too, I'm already stuck at the boss battle where you have to fight yourself.
Edit: HAHA!! I just beat him! Take that, self!!
Any tips? Nostalgic recollections?

I loved that game. Really would be cool if they did a full HD remake of it with a reorganized UI but with the same gameplay. I also would like to see this Lords of Shadow make it to the Switch.

This and Curse of Darkness were my favorites. I'd love a remake of the matter.

It's one of the best games ever, probably the best Castlevania ever made. This is the game that really coined the term "MetroidVania", though of course the Metroid games helped as well.

Install a Gameboy emulator on your phone as well and play Aria of Sorrow. Amazing, just fantastic.

Edited by dova spook: 2/26/2017 12:47:33 AM"What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!" Tip: there's and enemy called schmoo, it drops one of the best weapons in the game. It makes the rest of the bosses trivial though. Fun fact: the hallways in between areas were loading buffers.

One of my favorite things to do was to get the fists that allow you to do a hadoken. I would just run through the castle when I got bored and throw fireballs at everything. Some of the grinding for the rare items gets a little repetitive but if you have the ring to increase drop rate, it actually doesn't take too long to get most of the items. Unless you are trying to get the ring that boosts all of your stats by a ridiculous amount. Those things can be difficult to get to drop.

An excellent game and one that has been a clear influence on a number of titles since. Everything from the music to the combat suite are superb for a game from that era in particular and some titles fitting into that space now can still learn from it. Hope you enjoy the ride and as mentioned, you'll likely need a bit of help to unlock the second half of the game. Some of my favorite bosses reside there.

Edited by djtanng: 2/25/2017 4:03:57 AMMy favorite game of all time. Also, without spoilers, (from me at least) I highly recommend using youtube to find out how to fight the (sort-of-but-not) last boss correctly. If you do it wrong, you'll miss out on the entire second half of the game. I think that most people who think they beat the game have never seen the second half. It's one of those things that are near impossible to figure out without peeping at a strategy guide.

Such and awesome game. There's so many secrets and glitches that can get your into areas early onto the game. Here a pro tip. Jumping and I believe pressing down and jump performs a dive kick. This dive kick can be performed on enemis and candles to elevate your jump very high. In the begining of the game, ***Semi spoiler maybe*** there's an area where a ton of bats fly at you, and directly above you, is a small opening. I think you can time the dive kicks to elevate your jump up there, and if you have alucards altered forms, you spam them back and forth and it makes him float up. Can be used all over the place when you don't have the correct form to get to the higher areas early on, or that special ability

Whatever you do don't kill Richter!

This is one of my favourite games of all time. I make it a point to play it on a regular basis.
Wait until you get to the upside down castle, the difficulty level sky rockets then.
Enjoy this game Dated as it is, it was one of the best games to come out during the PSone days and holds up today My one bit of advice, do not farm for the Crissaegrim in the upside down until after a first playthrough Other then that...
HAVE AT YOU
Edited by UmbralHunter: 2/25/2017 3:51:18 AMI typically use Alucard's fist or one of the punching weapons against doppleganger. This is kind of difficult though because you'll need to stand nearly ontop of him to land any hits. Knowing how to cast all the spells will help too.
