the new next generation AMD processor family has ~95% of the horsepower of the latest Intel CPUs at a fraction of the cost of the comparable intel offering.
it works with new AM4/AM4+ socket motherboards. so you ned a new motherboard to get one.
this is absolutely huge! AMD, until now, hasn't had a truly new CPU since about 2008.
In addition, Rumors are that AMD will launch the R9 490 (or equivalent Vega based GPU with different name) at their GDC event.
what do this mean for you: it's going to be super cheap to build a good PC in the future compared to last generation of hardware. for the people who are on PS or Xbox consoles, they run on custom chips that they partner with AMD for creating and using. this next means that the next full generation of consoles (ie, what comes after the halfway point refresh consoles like the pro and scorpio) will be much more powerful and probably somewhat cheaper.
*pro-and scorpio confirmed to not use Ryzen. they're using the much older and weaker jaguar cores with a Polaris based RX470(not true 4K experience or actual upscaling, but tricks to make you think 1800P is 4K) as an integrated GPU in a sort of custom APU chipset unique to consoles.
this is great news, even for intel fanboys as intel should theoretically drop prices if they want to remain market competitive as AMD has really undercut their prices.
what do you think of this news?
Update: Leaked: they will be releasing a R7, R5, and R3 Family.
it looks like R5 might be either for higher end consumers or servers as it has a higher clock and more cores than the premium R7 chip according to /r/AMD and several leaked tech rumors.
