managing change & long term value of a customer/player
hi Coz/Bungie,
Just wanted to you to be aware of the following issues that will and has affected the Destiny community
1. Changes are hard to be accepted at first because we are all creatures o habit ... and if you "fix" something that is not broken then it generates angst and toxicity will go up and that causes players to leave and ultimately reduces your player base /revenue / profit.
2. Balance - meaning anyone can take any weapon they prefer and do equally well ... but the nerf and buff results in meta-trends which cause imbalance ... all sniper, all shotgun, all hand cannon, all mida ...i think you get the point. The sand box team maybe the most disliked for their lack of direction and mistakes thus the management of sandbox team really should be reviewed. By pushing sandbox team members to take the heat is not a sign of good leadership.
3. Destiny at one point was in the top 10 of all games ... now it is heading towards the top 20. While it truly is one of the best games (its the only game lots of my clan and friends play) but the mismanagement have driven away lots of good players who just got fed up. This effect does not only impact bungie's top / bottom lines but its long-term growth potential.
4. Content strategy - developing new content is expensive and requires lots of innovation which do not come easily every day .... especially the good ones . I just hope Bungie does not take destiny down the COD path to oblivion. Currently, there is a strong demand for revamping old content while we wait for new content ... this is a good way to keep the community steady ... FYI - there is already a lot of great content just use a little resource and upgrade it then player base would be happy while waiting. BUT - if you use the strategy of questing old gear in a new year ... that is really cheap. provide a truly balanced playing field (primary, secondary, and heavy) ... let the players choose that is how to keep players interested.
5. ENJOY YOURSELVES - when shax says "go enjoy yourselfs" in mayhem crucible ... one can truly feel free and know the developers understand what makes Destiny fun in PVP and PVE ... blowing things up ... please don't let the few elite YouTubers lead you by the nose (primary focused only game) .... that limits choice for other players who may not prefer and would never be competitive ... its a game ... let us enjoy it ... dont make us grind forever for a weapon or a gear ... its a GAME ... again let us enjoy it ...rather than build up angst and toxicity.
END of the day ... we the faithful day-1 players want to see Bungie to be better for the long term ... we certainly don't want to see our community degrade due to content mismanagement which ultimately will cause Bungie to loose money which results in poorer content development.
