I never got the problem, an insult doesn't make points less valid. Is it just thin skin or am I missing something?

Calling someone an idiot when they ask for you to refute their argument shows that you have nothing to say back to them and that you've gone to the low point of childish insults. However, if you say something like "That's not true at all you idiotic Orangutan!" And then begin to list a bunch of facts backed up by sources. Not only does that insult them but it also proves them wrong.
