So a way to run Destiny 1 into Destiny 2 could be to have some catastrophic death/disaster intro to wipe the slate clean for character progression similar to the opening for Mass Effect 2. So maybe the city gets attacked (maybe in the way some recent rumours have suggested) and we fend off the attackers using one of our current guardians and ultimately fail. Our guardian could die and our ghost could escape and be left to wander.
Some time could pass and our ghost could find our new guardian. Perhaps these guardians could display some special qualities like those of our Destiny 1 guardians. This would give us a new character to level up and a familiar companion that could sing the praises of our old guardian.
The time gap could also allow the story to be pushed on a bit and give time for some interesting events and story hooks to come about.
In the meantime the iron lords (or the vanguard maybe) have created some monument in our honour (maybe a statue in the iron temple) and ghost would want to bring us there. Here we could collect any potential loyalty rewards as engrams based on our Destiny 1 accomplishments. This could also be done in a social space where we could go and look up any player's legend similarly to what's displayed in the companion app.
Thoughts?

Edited by Ambivalent Hero: 3/30/2017 6:51:52 AMDestiny and mass effect should never touch.. not even if its consensual..no matter how badly mass effect wanted to touch destiny's butt...oops went off topic. Tl;dr Keep your hands to yourself. -arise dead topic-

Reapers vs guardians eh? I'd pay to see that match up

Edited by Pellmell54: 2/13/2017 9:21:07 PMI feel its more likely that the traveler is just going to leave at the beginning of Destiny 2. Might be wrong, but the Traveler doesn't seem very altruistic by the way it bugs out on the races in the Hives way when there is trouble. Think its only function is to advance civilization and promote the growth of civilization to serve the light, but might be wrong. Now that the traveler is free to restore its light and heal... once its done doing that it might just move on to spread the light elsewhere. In this process we will discover something of the "true" nature of the Ghosts . Traveler farted out ghosts that speak perfect english yet the traveler itself is never recorded as communicating at all? Sounds suspicious, not to mention how... humanlike all the ghosts seem. Sort of brings to mind the Exo grimoire card where it talks about how it doesn't make sense for Exo's to have emotions, they don't enhance their capabilities in battle or in labor... so why? Why give the ghosts human like personalities? The "Light" will be ripped from you by the traveler when it leaves, leaving you somewhat of a husk, (remember the concept art showing your guardians clad in embers of fire? The remnants after the fire has burnt out) And this is what will cause the character item reset, as the items we have and our power as guardians are based on the power we have received from the light. Anyway, sum up my theory, Traveler leaves, light is ripped away from us leaving us nearly powerless and in a desperate fight against enemies only too happy to take advantage of our weaknesses, and we need to find other paths to power (Osiris anyone?)

Destiny 2 story SIVA gets used to rebuild and revive the traveler, then we find out it got (or maybe always was) corrupted and It was the end of everything... -Long pause... But it was also a beginning.
we all know bungee loves to reuse things
Destruction of the city is very possible, considering the roomers that destiny 2 will be an open world game

Hate to break it to you but the traveler won't leave because rasputin won't let it. He already stopped the travler from leaving once, he will again

Edited by Alföðr: 2/15/2017 10:57:13 PMDestiny is basically just a Power Fantasy, Action, FPS (kind of MMORPG). That First part though is what makes me think that our D1 characters will survive. Some people might not grasp it when they make suggestions like our D1 characters getting killed off. Destiny became a Power Fantasy after TDB or Crota's End. We killed a God so what can beat us now. The Power Fantasy Aspect became huge after we killed Oryx right? At this point, normal enemies can't fight us on fair ground. The thing is is that Bungie took tips from Bethesda about how to make a Power Fantasy. They tell you early on about the fact that you are a god but they forget to remind you when the minor threats come along. An example of this is how it was never brought up that you killed Crota in TDB when you were playing HoW. Malok should have sh*t his pants when he saw us walk towards him. We killed Oryx who was way more powerful than Malok but they don't remind you. My Bethesda Power Fantasy example is Skyrim. Remember when you killed Alduin, the World Eater, he's a god but when you tell Serana's mother that you'll kill Lord Harkon, the Vampire Lord. She laughs at you even though your the Dragonborn who has already killed a God. Bungie pasted that into Destiny. Destiny is still a Power Fantasy, you have a Legendary Status as God-slayer, Vault-raider, and Kingtakers. So when people tell me that a Cabal Invasion will put down our D1 Guardian, I shake my head. We have killed God's before but how will some Psions kill The Lord Guardian. We just became Iron Lords, you think that's gonna be short lived? No. That's another Power Fantasy mistake. If being an Iron Lord is so special, then why don't the Vanguard call us Lord or Lady Guardian. It doesn't matter if they are a higher rank but it matters if they respect us, which they should. Rant over.

hmmmmmmm that's sad, but seems like a good hook to the story....

Collectors and Reapers..... Sign me up!

Don't know why people have grown so attached to their characters. They are a mute pack mule that hasn't strung a sentence together since 2014. You are the Guardian, you die, your character dies. Your character dies, you are still here to continue the fight. Let's hope we move onto greater things in Destiny 2.
-
I believe originally each character race or class had its own beginning starting on different planets and earth was the last one to get to besides the exo. After the stuff that occurred before launch they wound up making the exotic one on earth be the beginning for everyone regardless of character. I wonder if they are going to use some of the other ideas used and incorporate a new story from it....such as exiled and a captive of the Cabal. You have to escape and make your way to an area where all the 'rebel' guardians are. Rebuilding and doing recon missions.
-
And here I was hoping we would just have to shoot probes at the Cosmodrome for spin metal.
-
Let's hope it doesn't do a mass effect 3 instead.
-
Maybe an event happens with our character and we will be exhiled. Stripped of weapons and such. This could give into the osiris aspect when the cabal attack earth. Then our hope would be to come back from exhile by defeating the cabal. A great entrance for osiris coming back into play as a power house within the vanguard and tower. Just an idea I was thinking of
-
This "idea" has been on this forum ever since the "clean slate vs. carry over" battle began. At this point I hope it doesn't happen this way solely because it'd be such an expected, telegraphed move.
-
I'm fine with a clean slate for weapons and armor but I want to keep my grimoire emblems shaders ship ect
-
Two words, The Cabal. There has been no Cabal raid. So if The Cabal managed to seperate us from Ghost, I could see how we could get a MAss Effect 2 start. Personally, I feel as if Bungie should just take off and nuke the planet from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
-
I don't understand how an attack on the tower would kill our guardian; we destroyed times conflux, Atheon, 2 hive gods, crota and oryx, and the best that the fallen have thrown at us in the form of aksis and vosik. I will be severely annoyed if we are just walked over by the crappy cabal or some such. Our guardians have destroyed every major threat the darkness has thrown at us after all!
-
No new guardians please I have grown quite attached to mine Didn't bungie say they were staying anyway?
-
You can't kill a Guardian if he still has a Ghost
-
I'd be all in for a clean slate. Just let me keep my grimoire score and give me some kind of emblem showing some legacy of Y1 (amount of raid completions etc.) and I'd be fine with it.

Edited by BusyBadger: 2/13/2017 8:16:35 PMI think you're giving too much credit. Bungie can't even manage in-game lore like ME1 did. They've got to learn to crawl before they can walk. Speaking of Mass Effect though, Bungie better hope Andromeda isn't very good. Plenty of PVE only players that might jump ship in late March, especially if the multiplayer co-op is decent. Then there's the lead time they're handing over to Bioware. That's a lot of time for players to get really entrenched into Andromeda if Bioware manages to keep it fresh. But the real spectre on the horizon is the game that CD Projekt Red has been typically tight-lipped about, Cyberpunk 2077. I imagine we'll find out more come E3.
-
Edited by God Alrighty: 2/13/2017 5:38:30 PMI'd prefer a Jak and Dexter 2 thing where we're straight up consumed by the darkness and all of our abilities come from that connection. We're the good guys by choice, but goshdarnit do we look good in black with long hair and a soulpatch.
Our guardian could die and our ghost could escape and be left to wander. Thoughts?
Can't the ghost just revive our guardian, no matter what or where they are? I thought that was the main point of said ghost. Well, that and opening locks. How many times in the crucible or the PvE world have we died? Our guardian's death means nothing if the ghost is alive.
-
I think it will either be our guardian is discredited and kicked out of the Vanguard or our ghost and guardian go on a suicide mission and they die.
-
Kind of like the transition from Assassins Creed 2 to Brotherhood (don't quote me on that I might be wrong in which ones they are) We start out and run a first mission with our original guardian but something happens and then we lose everything we built up in the previous game. It was a pretty cool mechanic playing those games.
