Her resurrection was the result of light being corrupted by Hive magic, which had lay dormant in her body until her Ghost attempted to resurrect her with its light. As it did, the dark magic lashed out and latched on, corrupting the Ghost and engulfing her light in the process, and forced an unstable bond between Guardian and Ghost. By standard of Light Hallena is an abomination, but to the Vanguard, she is a very delicate case that must be handled very, very carefully, for fear of losing her to the Darkness. During her life before her resurrection, Hallena lived in the settlement of Palamon when it was visited by the infamous Dredgen Yor and fell to infatuation with the man. For a while he entertained it, as her worship and fear of him made him feel powerful as he wanted, but after a while he decided to reward her with the power and knowledge the Hive had gifted him. Yor murdered Hallena brutally and left her body behind when he realized Hive magic didn’t affect creatures not born of light the same way it had affected him. However, when her Ghost found her days later (thanks to a heartbroken Bennett who had retraced the trail of Yor after hearing the rumors), Hallena’s resurrection was anything but smooth. The festering Hive-magic left behind attached itself to her Ghosts’ light as it analyzed her body, stole and corrupted its light. Although Hallena had not meant to be her Ghosts’ Guardian, the Hive corruption shackled them to each other, which has resulted in an inability to focus her light into any one specific “class”. Hal’s resurrection was traumatizing, both mentally and physically- she awoke in pain without both of her legs and her right arm, and she woke up screaming. Bennett, in his horror, broke his self-inflicted exile and raced her to the tower, where the Vanguard was able to help put her back together. However, unsure of what to do with the girl (should a corrupted Guardian really be fighting the Darkness…?), they suggested she find Bennett and learn what she could under his mentorship, and she did. Years passed and she eventually moved on from her heartbreak over Yor, until Hallena made contact with a fireteam that called themselves the Shadows of Yor. Intrigued, she sought them out and fell in with a group that eagerly ate up anything and everything she could tell them about their idol. During this time, the shadows began to whisper… and after forging her own cleansed Thorn, the Hive corruption inside of her again corrupted the weapon, and suddenly, she could see Yor’s vision clearly. She understood (or so she thought), and she vowed to see it through- to make them remember the name Yor and fear it as they should. The Shadows bestowed on her a new title, “The Bride of Yor”, as they believed she had been hand-chosen by him to succeed his purpose, and she adopted the name Dredgen Hal.
