Having lost her arm before she had even left the womb, and her parents before she was old enough to even know their names, Hayden traveled outside the walls with a Romani caravan from settlement to settlement and helped with what she could. Though a tribe, she never really was able to consider the caravan her family, and did not find such people until she met Haxon, Miriam, and Gedeon (her first love) Steelwillow. Although Haxon was adamant not to trust outsiders for nearly a year and a half into their stay in their settlement, he eventually grew to love Hayden as his own daughter and adopted her into their family, until their home was overrun by Fallen no more than three years after the Caravan had first arrived in the settlement; they were all killed in the raid, as Hayden fought off the Fallen to give them a window to escape. Fast forward to her resurrection as a Guardian, and one of the few to have been resurrected in light lacking a full form. When she arrived at the tower, she was assigned to Fireteam Daybreak to apprentice under Dee, one of the more experienced and gifted Titans. With his tutelage she has learned to compensate for her inability to use certain weapons by sticking to one-handed firearms and shoulder charging anything that gets too close. In time she was also able to master a one-handed fist of havoc, a feat that requires great skill and focus to achieve as a rookie. Although he knows what she’s capable of, Dee tends to follow her around out of caution, as he worries for her safety, and in time he was even able to talk her into letting Amanda make a prosthetic for her. Since she already understood ASL, she was able to communicate with Dee from the moment they met, even if she couldn’t speak back in sign language. With all the time they spent together, they eventually bonded beyond mentor and pupil and developed feelings for each other. A little over six months after her resurrection Hayden found out that Miriam and Gedeon had also been resurrected- Miriam returned to the tower, while Gedeon maintained his status as a Warlord, refusing to come home no matter how many times his friends and family asked him to come with them. He and Hayden fought, and after beating him within an inch of his life, Hayden left him behind, heartbroken, and decided to move on with her life; after the stressful events surrounding the end of the Rise of Iron campaign, settled into a relationship with Dee that lasted about a year. A few years later she and Gedeon get married, around the time Haxon is also resurrected, and their family is complete again, this time with Hayden as a true Steelwillow.
