Knights Among Light
Chapter IV: Concordat
--The Paris Base--
“Hello, can anyone hear me. Is anyone there? Can you hear me?” Strenu asked into the comms. “Someone please answer me!” For the first time since the Faction Wars Strenu truly felt hopeless. “Please, Artemis. Sweep. Anyone!”
Nothing came through. The signal was dead. It was as if it had never been made.
Strenu walked away from the comms, a tear starting to form in his eye. Was there just handful of people, killed at the hands of the Concordat? A weight had been put onto his shoulders as he walked away, feelings of anguish and defeat surfacing on his face. Then there was static. Not just static, but the familiar feeling of hope, and the weight of defeat being lifted. He had hoped that there’d be any sort of reply, but then it went dead again. As he started to walk away once more, something new was heard. A voice of a Huntress. A familiar and safe voice.
“You? Asking me for help? Me? Now I’ve seen everything.”
Shinoda jumped from the cockpit when he heard the voice. Strenu ran back to the comms. He pressed several buttons in an attempt to raise the signal, to hear her.
“Artemis! Artemis do you read us?”
“No, I can’t hear you at all. Actually, this thing is probably broken. Just gonna
have to toss it, wait a few weeks to find another one or something…” replied Artemis, casually.
“Arty, don’t! I know you wouldn’t. Right? Shinoda?”
Shinoda replied, “I mean, she is a little bit crazy. To me, at least.”
Shadowshot looked around. He walked into the cockpit. It was suitable. Had seats for 4. Then he saw something outside… It was the Blight. The Taken were here. The Nightstalker ran to the back of the ship and opened the door. He carried his Red Spectre in his arms. Then he saw them. He raised his weapon, aimed and fired.
On board the ship, the comm signal suddenly died. At the same exact moment, the sudden thundering noise of gunfire was heard, startling the group of survivors. Strenu ran out from the Blockade runner with his Haakon’s Hatchet ready to fire, expecting none but the worse. Afterall, it was pretty bad, what could possibly be worse?
--Concordat HQ, Concordat Palace, London--
“Supreme Leader, the Last City has sent a team to Paris. The Bannerfall strike force is among them. We believe that they were deployed to kill Yulin.” General Lyre told Lysander. The Supreme Leader turned around. His Titan mark waving in the cold air.
“Deploy the Armada General.” Lysander ordered. “Ensure that Strenu is brought to me. Alive and well. Take his friends hostage if need be. Just ensure he makes his way to me.” Lyre nodded. He turned on his mic when Lysander spoke again.
“And one last thing General.” Lysander said. He walked over to Lyre and put his hand on the general’s shoulder. His hand was cold to the touch, freezing almost.
“What would that thing be sir?” Lyre asked fearfully.
“Kill the girl and make him watch.” Lysander responded.
“It will be done Supreme Leader.” Lyre said.
“Good.”
--The Tower, Cayde’s Secret meeting room behind the Exotic Weapons terminal, The Last City--
A speaker sounded when Eris walked in the room. It said one thing: Welcome to Cayde’s Secret meeting room behind the Exotic Weapons terminal!
Eris grimaced at the sound. “Is that speaker really necessary, Cayde?”
Cayde replied, “Of course it is. Was that rock on my map necessary?”
“It was no rock. It was an embalming orb created by Toland the Shattered through a high concentration of Darkness. It is my sight now. I see but I don’t.”
“And it has a rock inside of it. And that rock. Was on my map.”
“It is no rock. It is a Hive Rune within an embalming orb created by Toland the Shattered through a high concentration of Darkness. It was his final gift to me.”
“That looks suspiciously like a rock. That was on my map.”
“You look suspiciously guilty.”
“Oh?”
“As if you know it isn’t a rock…as if you know the power it holds… The power to destroy worlds.
“Rests inside of a rock? That was on my map? Has the power to destroy worlds? Or maps?”
"Need I remind you that you destroyed my ship?"
"We didn't destroy it, we repurposed it."
“And it was annihilated by an ancient Hive world destroying weapon along the way.”
“At least it didn’t destroy a world, right?”
“It destroyed Petra’s personal world.”
The door the opened again. Ikora and Amanda Holliday walked inside.
“So this is what ya needed the Sparrow Engine for?” Amanda asked Cayde when she saw said Sparrow engine hanging from the ceiling being used as a lamp.
“Looks nice, right?” Cayde replied.
“What about how it’s already missing an antigrav thruster?”k
“That’s why we have cables holding it up.”
“I gave it to ya last week.”
Ikora then interrupted the conversation. “Cayde, why did you call us here?”
Cayde thought about it long and hard. “I need sparrows, strategy and a creepy sidekick.”
Eris turned to him with much anger. “What did you just say to us?”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got the guns covered.” Cayde replied. “And the roguish commander.”
Eris then saw an opportunity to strike at Cayde’s ego. “Let us hope that Shiro will be a good commander.” She said. “Or at least better than Captain Rockmap.”
“You’re the one with the rock. Cap’n.”
“But you have the map, do you not?”
“I do.”
“Thus you are Captain Rockmap.”
“Thus… WE are Captain Rockmap... Captain.”
“You may want to work on your grammar Vanguardian”
“It was a bet. He cheated.”
“What?”
“Well you see, there was a bet that involved me and another hunter. Whoever lost became the Hunter vanguard. And that is where I am today.”
Ikora again stepped in. “We is meant to be plural. I is singular.”
“Shoot, even I know that.” Amanda said. “My ma taught me that when I was a girl.”
“You’re not a girl anymore?” The Hunter Vanguard asked. “Well, there goes that.”
“Cayde!” Amanda hollered. “You’re making me blush.”
“Oh I know.”
