Think it's going to start with the traveler leaving and destroying the last city in the process. With your guardian obviously out on patrol.
Perfect way to wipe the slate clean and force a change of location.

If they did this they could include a mission that sends you back to the ruins of the last city and let you recover at least some of your gear from destiny 1. Not at the beginning of the campaign but maybe half way through or at the end.
