Knights Among Light
Chapter II: Hybrid Theory
Yulin looked out of the viewpoint onboard the station. They had built this small complex over London. The Lieutenant Commander readied his pulse rifle. The test was in 13 hours and there was time to kill. The Lieutenant Commander didn't need Kun questioning his every move on the DarkMatter Rail anymore. Perhaps he could kill Kun when he arrived. Or perhaps not. Yulin walked swiftly across the sterile white hallways. The green lights made the walk seem like it was some sort of dream, a strange and dark dream, like walking in a mirror maze. The Lieutenant Commander continued on his way to the Hybrid Chamber. He had ordered that this Hybrid creature be created when he took position as the director of the battle station, if you could call it that. It wasn’t your typical space station or a military base. And it was no Death Star. (pls don't sue)
In fact this station couldn’t destroy a country with even half of it’s fleet deployed. Perhaps with it’s whole fleet it could only destroy a state the size of Britain. And it was covered in weakspots. The station was not as much as a station as it was simply a big gun. Finally, yulin reached the door to the Hybrid Chamber. He pressed his hand against it and gave an eye scan and the door opened. Inside was a ghastly beast. It was at it’s core, Cabal, but it was torn apart and rebuilt with Hive DNA and a strain of SIVA the Concordat had created themselves. Yulin watched the beast writhe and claw at the energy field keeping it caged. A scientist looked to the Lieutenant Commander in question. Yulin nodded to the scientist who looked fearful as he dropped the Hybrid from it’s cage into Space, to a target of the torn city of Old New York.
--Concordat Resistance HQ--
The trip to the McCormick Place was rather beneficial to Incertus. He was now aware of all the current happenings within this Resistance. This Resistance he had been forced into. And for what? For some chance of stopping an enemy with the element of surprise and larger numbers? This wasn't a Resistance, it was a suicide squad.
(don’t sue pls) Shinoda walked over to Incertus with a concerned look on his face. “Listen Shadowshot, I know what you’re thinking.” Shadowshot turned to Shinoda with slight frustration. Shinoda chuckled. He continued. “You think that this ragtag group of Resistance fighters is a suicide squad and we can’t win if we tried.” To this Shadowshot shot up his head. “How the Hellmouth did you know that?” Shinoda patted Shadowshot on the shoulder with confidence. “It’s normal to feel that way, I sure did when I joined this Resistance, then I went on my first mission. And get this! It was a raid on a Fallen Wolves base on Mars!” Shadowshot suddenly lost energy again. “How does that affect me?” He asked. “That’s you! Not me or anyone else!” Shinoda facepalmed to this. He just walked away from Incertus with some sense of failure within him. Incertus (WE’RE CALLING HIM SHADOWSHOT FROM NOW ON!) just stared at Shinoda as he walked away. A comm signal went into Shadowshot’s new mic.
“Hello again, it’s ThunderBunker, I need you to come down to the Torn Republic Tower to get your mission.” Shadowshot tried to find his headset. He took it from his shoulder and attached it to his comms. “I’m sorry? Literally where?” Shadowshot asked. “You’re tellin’ me to go to a building I don’t know about!” ThunderBunker sighed into the mic. “The big silver glass one! The one previously known as the fricking Trump Tower!” Shadowshot ran across the street. He took his Sparrow out from transmat. “This answers little to nothing! I’m just going back to the Willis Tower.” The ride to the Willis Tower was sad and dark. The news of the Hybrid that the Concordat had been creating was enough to sicken Shadowshot but the possibility that the Last City could be attacked any day or even the fact that the Concordat could be building a weapon capable of destroying it was enough to depress him. He rode his Sparrow up to the Willis Tower and as he went within a block of the building ThunderBunker ran in the way with 5 other Guardians. Shadowshot jumped off his Sparrow and took his weapon (A Dead Orbit SUROS Ari-45 {I’M WELL AWARE THAT Dead Orbit doesn’t have SUROS stuff. This is about 7 months since RoI in the story, I’m hoping Bungie will put new vendor weapons for 2017 April Update.) ThunderBunker handed SS his mission file. He then walked him to a Blockade Runner alongside the other 5 Guardians. The Gunslinger then ran off the ship and began the standard launch procedure. He held the light stick in his hands. In the classic motion of a landing crew officer he waved the sticks.
The Blockade Runner flew off and into Slipspace. Shadowshot looked around the ship he had just been forced on to.
“So…” He said nervously. “Who are you people?” He saw a Warlock at the edge of the Seats. Next to him was a Huntress and strangely, Strenu. On Shadowshot’s side was himself, a female Warlock and a Male Titan. The Warlock at the end of the opposite row spoke up.
“I'm… Quinn.” He said feverishly. The look on his face told that he was scared. Scared of what was the thing Shadowshot couldn't determine. The Male Titan was the next to speak up. “The name is Logan. I joined after watching my parents murdered at the Concordat Prison Camps.” The Titan stopped and stared blankly at the other Guardians. He continued: “It was never the same without them. I'm one of the few Guardians that didn't die to become one… we're… people like me are the stuff of Legends… ya know…. and I'm afraid of the Darkness…” He regained some strength in his voice. “But I have no problem killing traitors to the Light. New Monarchy will prevail! We can stop them!” The female Warlock next to him cringed to that comment. She looked disgusted. Quite evidently by both her armor and her reaction she was Dead Orbit (or as she called it Deceased Orbitation) The Warlock almost got up but stopped at the thought she might scare the Titan out of the Resistance too. “The name is Aricebo. Symbolism ya know. We sent out that transmission. The only answer we got was the Collapse.” She stopped. “And a new reason to start wars. The bloodsucking failures of organisms named the Concordat.”
Shadowshot looked around at everyone. “My name is Incer-” The Hunter stopped “My name is Shadowshot and I'm a Noctis.” The Warlock looked at Shadowshot mysteriously. “You don't have Gunslinger?” She asked. Shadowshot simply shook his head. “I know it's strange but instead of Gunslinger I got Nightstalker. Really a strange thing.” Logan was happy with this result but had one question: “Why did you join?” Shadowshot thought about what to say. “Kidnapped.” He said without thought. Quinn grinned. “That makes two of us.”
Shadowshot looked off into the distance. He felt as if there was something off in the world. Something devastatingly wrong. Like someone had mashed the creatures of the Dark into something worse. Something far worse. Something that couldn't be contained. his feelings clashed. Should he reveal his thoughts or stay silent and hope things didn't get bad. Then he spoke:
“I have…” He stopped, looking for the right word. “A theory.” He said. “I theory about something.” Aricebo stared.
“Like what?” She asked. The response was three words long.
“A Hybrid Theory.”
Hope you enjoyed the second chapter! See ya soon!
