Now, a small disclaimer before I move on to the meat of my post. I am vehemently opposed to Trump being elected, as some may have seen, and I have very strong distaste for the fact that he won out.
That being said, I am seeing an unintended positive effect of this controversial election.
People are caring about politics.
Having elected such a spiteful and controversial figurehead, the nation will now scrutinize absolutely everything he does- to criticize, to praise, or simply to report. Due to the strong dislike people have for him, or their zealous following he has gathered, people are watching like never before.
The man has not even taken office yet, and his 100 day plan has arguably gotten more media attention and criticism than any recent president. His cabinet picks alone are making splashes in places where normally, nobody cared who they were.
Because he has gathered so much hate and passion, Trump has placed himself under a microscope. People care about what he does. People care what is going on in the nation, down to the little things.
I have to say, it is refreshing to see, and I'd rather it happen under more favorable circumstances, but I'm glad to see at least one good thing out of all of this.
I apologize for any holes in my argument or if it is poorly written in places. Been a hectic day today.
I think you're actually being genuine but you are really ignorant right now. The intense scrutiny you're observing is nothing more then the media's intensely bitter partisanship. They gave bush the same treatment for his eight years and didn't hold Obama to the same level of scrutiny very evident on foreign policy alone which was given really nice spin under Obama but rightly denounced as war crimes and abuses of power under Bush despite the fact that Obama largely continued Bush's policies... including the ones that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.

Also memes and satire. The Private Eye is going to have material in abundance for at least the next 4 years. 😀

Oh boy. When liberals get into politics property gets damaged.

Quality memes for a whole 4 years.

Edited by TheCosmicCrumpet: 1/19/2017 6:51:04 AMHear me out about this. For about a year leading up to the election, a certain group of my facebook 'friends' kept on making 'support trump' posts and linking 'hillary is crooked' articles, etc. It was annoying, granted, but i tend not to judge people too harshly by their political opinions. As time went on, it kept getting worse and worse (of course) and i was actually getting quite pissed at a few people i knew for the blatant bullsh!t they were posting. But then trump gets elected. There's all the 'i told you so' posts and celebration and whatnot. But now, months later, regardless of all they have said, the majority of people i know have basically done nothing and just laid down now that trump has won. That's all they cared about. They don't care about reading up on current politics and voting in members of senate. They don't care about what Trump actually does once he's in power. Now that they've filled their quota of voting, all that they'll care about is reading about the next political scandal in the news, instead of actually doing anything about it. And i bet you that at the end of four years, it'll be the same people doing the same thing, just listening to the one who talks the biggest talk.

Edited by Big Cash Moneys: 1/18/2017 3:50:38 PMthat literally happened with obama, but only on fox news and other conservative outlets where hes said to be evil incarnate. however most major liberal outlets depicted him to be a god. trump however will most likely be given less criticism from the right but still a lot. people didnt care as much then however. but you say hate and passion are being created, and youre right, people are only passionate because they hate him. not because they have the intelligence to be concerned with politics for the betterment of the country and themselves. it is refreshing for you because you hate trump. coming from someone who couldnt care less about someones party or previous actions it is disgusting. the reason every little thing trump has done in the past is being ripped apart and analyzed is because he has no political track record. he got upset by his personal life being attacked he lashed out at hillary, which worked because people dont care about politics they want a fight. ironically attacking trumps past personal life shouldnt be taken personally its just there was nothing else to talk about. but thats beside the point. while it makes people passionate it makes them angry and hateful. they babble on about how stupid trunp is and because you agree with them its "refreshing". what would be refreshing is if people were talking about their local legislation or school board or things that ranting about will actually have an effect on. theres no point except the sake of arguing or debating his plans for talking about the president. but when people even show the slightest like or dislike for trump the other side wants to kill them. again this election and what it is causing is disgusting not refreshing. but a tall glass of dank memes is. test

The problem I'm seeing here is that, while more people certainly are caring about politics, they're picking one side and sticking with it, without actually doing any research. No one is caring about the numbers, morals or implications of their preferred economic plans, so long as they get to kick out the Mexicans and keep their guns, or kill their babies and remove religion from everything. People aren't caring about politics to come closer as a nation. There's no willingness to compromise. And there won't be a willingness to compromise as long as we have two parties only focused on self interests. That's why i still hate both sides of the political spectrum. I am happy to see that people are at least trying to be more optimistic about it tho. Maybe we'll survive this next terrible episode, and learn from it. One can hope.

And this is why I'm not worried about Trump falling under scandal because if there's real dirt on trump, it will come to light. But as of yet, nothing has come to fruition so that must mean they have nothing on him. This isn't hillary where they gloss over her life and pretend there isn't scandal and half assed investigations into her past. Trump doesn't get that luxury. His life is being scrutinized much more heavily than the FBI did Hillary.

Edited by Talk2MeToner: 1/18/2017 3:44:55 AMSo what you're saying is... Trump-Kun is the true Hokage just like Sasuke-Kun wanted to become? He unites us all by taking on all the hatred himself. How selfless. A true Hokage indeed.

Sometimes people need to be burned to realize there is a fire.

Edited by Alpha alt 3: 1/18/2017 4:31:48 AMAlthough many care, they still have no idea what is going on.

True, unfortunately these people also need to learn to use the internet properly and let ideas flow freely. If they think someone is wrong, they need to prove them wrong and not ad hominem or block them. Hopefully these things will be mere growing pains and we can gain many more people to develop our political culture fully.

You mean, just like with Obama ? He made it 8 years somehow, I think Trump will be fine.
-
But Anarchy is the answer

Good point, hadn't thought of it that way.
-
Who do you think would be better than Trump?

You seem like one of those liberals who cried uncontrollably, and even raged, when Trump won.
