This suggestion would be quite an undertaking for Destiny, so please consider it for Destiny 2.
I know that cross-platform gameplay has a lot of technical (and likely legal) hurdles, so I'm not holding high expectations for that. However, I think a more achievable goal that could be accomplished for D2 that would still greatly improve quality of life would be platform-agnostic accounts. That is, I could sign off PS4 and load the same character on XB1 to play with other friends.
I own both consoles, but I don't play Destiny with my friends on XB1 because I have no desire to start over from the beginning. I want to play with them, but I want to play with my guardian, ya know?
(Please don't be offended by my armchair developer theorizing!) Because character data seems to be fully housed on Bungie's servers and not reliant on persisting on any PSN or XBL systems, I think this is a realistic goal for D2. Platform exclusives can even continue, since you guys have shown that you are capable of having certain equipment locked and unequippable if requirements aren't met.
For example, I have TTK Collector's edition gear. If someone signs in to Destiny on my PS4 they can actually receive and equip that gear since my console is designated as a "Primary Console" and they have access to the license for that content. However, as soon as they sign on their console, the content is unequipped and they can no longer use it. This mechanic can be used to allow platform agnostic accounts while maintaining console exclusive gear.
I posted this idea on the Destiny subreddit and it got a lot of traction. A lot of us, myself included, even indicated that we would definitely buy two copies of Destiny (or Destiny 2) if this feature was a thing: one for PS4, and one for XB1. I understand that when logged in on PS4 I would only be playing with other PS4 players, I just think it would be awesome if I could log off and then go raid with my friends on XB1.
Regardless, Destiny is one of the greatest games ever made; thanks for everything y'all have done!
